Honestly can’t remember drinking the MRE koolaid. Tried to stay away from the stuff in the chow hall too but but guess I would go with grape.

The red bug juice was best as a cleaning agent and making brass shine. I was a fire control radar guy and we actually ran the stuff through the cooling channel of a $ 48,000 klystron tube in a SPG-51 transmitter every time we’d lose cooling flow. It never failed to clear the blockage.
Imagine what it did for your inerds !

I spent 20 years in the Army, first 10 as an enlisted man and know my way around MRE's and life in the field. I don't recall the term bug juice either. In areas where alcohol was not allowed like the Mideast the medics could order 5 gallon cans of drinkable alcohol that was supposed to be used for some medical thing. That was usually mixed with grape Kool-aid. It was very high proof alcohol.

I was a C-ration guy - before the time of MRE's. Was Kool-Aid included in the meals? I don't remember what we drank in mess halls during training but C-Rations did not include anything to add to drinking water to my memory (which is definitely fading).

Honestly, I think the ones we had were left over from WWII. The desert was a sweet roll of some type, that came in a tin. You couldn't eat them without breaking a tooth. The rations had instant coffee, but no kool aid. I still have a ton of John Wayne (P38) can openers. Bug juice was served on the mess decks.
