Great news for pro golf fans. Just saw on Golf Channel that

Dec 8, 2021, 7:56 PM

Eldridge Woods has signed up to play in the PNC Father/Son Challenge again this year with his son Charlie, who stole the show the last time out.

Whether you are a Tiger Woods fan or not, you pretty much have to be impressed with him getting back to this point, just as a commentary on the strength of the human spirit. (Yes, I know he caused his own injuries, remember Glass Houses). From a point where he says amputation of his right leg was at least discussed, to being back walking on that leg and swinging golf sticks again, is pretty darn remarkable.

He says he will never again play a full PGA Tour schedule, but so what. I guarantee the Tour will take him in any form they can get him. Nobody, not even Jack or Arnie in their prime, ever "moved the needle" like he does when he just ENTERS a golf tournament, much less WINS one.

He has always looked for records to break. You can bet he has Ben Hogan on his mind now. He is too old to do what Hogan did, but I would not want to bet against him winning again some time, some where. If he does, my money is on that place called Augusta National.

And if he does, it will rank right up there with Nicklaus in 1986 as one of THE greatest golf stories of all time. I STILL watch that 1986 Sunday back nine and get goose pimples.30, with a BOGEY on 12. Who says God is not a golf fan?

Not a fan of Alley Cat Woods. Can flat out play the game of golf but is a failure at the game of life. Saw a commercial recently with him hugging a kid and signing an autograph. That was completely made up. Follow him around a golf course and he never does that. He is completely into himself. What other active golfers do they have on for commentary ?

Well, guy, in his defense pretty much all tour players......

zone out and ignore the spectacle around them. The successful ones anyway.

I recall a story from Arnie in an interview way back. He was several strokes up with maybe 2 to play. He noticed a family friend in gallery so he steps over to speak to him and shake hands. It broke his concentration and he ended up losing the tournament. He said it was a lesson learned and he never broke himself out of the "zone" ever again during play.

And that tournament happened to be the 1961 Masters.

Drive in the fairway on 18 with a one shot lead, Arnie accepted premature congratulations from a friend in the gallery. Stumbled to a double bogey and gifted the title to Gary Player, who was already in the clubhouse watching it unfold on TV.

Maybe he signs autographs after he completes a round? No professionals sign during a round.

that they all are pretty much petty divas and tiger was the biggest.

i have seen tiger after playing walk right past adoring kids wanting his time and autograph.

kids who buy his merchandise and look up to him have there feelings crushed.

he was no role model and was all about money and fame.

the only star i saw sighning autographs for fans was phil mickelson.

he is a class act.

In the defense of pro golfers, we need to realize that this

is how they make a LIVING. Sure, the best of them sign some big endorsement contracts, but if they play poorly for and extended period, not only do those endorsements go away, the PCA Tour takes away their privileges to play in Tournaments full time.

Not a real apples to apples, but imagine if EVERY time you went to work, there was a steady parade of people sticking their heads into your workspace asking you to sign something, take a picture with them, talk to them. I daresay you would either ignore them while working like the pros do, or you would get fired real quick for nonperformance.

Now,as one of you said, the generally accepted time for signing autographs and such is after a round. Even then, though, there are reasons why not. The player may have played badly, and wants to get right out to the practice range with their coach and caddy, and try to solve whatever problem it was that caused their poor play. For all their talent, these are some insecure guys. They may hit 20 good drives in a row, then hook a couple badly, and immmediately panic, OMG, I've LOST MY SWING! A couple bad holes for them with the talent on today's PGA Tour is the difference in going home on Friday with empty pockets, or playing for a paycheck on the weekend.

Now, I will be first to admit that Tiger Woods was about as poor a role model as you could be as a husband. But, by all accounts, he has always been a good father to his children, and with age and adversity has gained wisdom, as we all hope we have. He is not the first, by far, to ignore the fans.

Hogan used to get in such a zone he even ignored his fellow group players. Arnold Palmer even admitted he blew a U.S. Open one year, simply because he kept going at flags even after he had built a solid lead, simply because he wanted to "stick it to Hogan" by breaking Hogan's scoring record. Hogan even failed to acknowledge a HOLE IN ONE that a playing partner had made in a tournament once, Hogan had birdied the hole, and was about to take honors on the next tee, before he finally asked, "What did YOU have on that hole?" He was so zoned that he did not even pay attention to what his playing partner had done.

The Impact of TW

Dec 9, 2021, 8:32 AM

There has never been a more negative impact on the integrity of the game than was/has been contributed by TW. He was blessed with a God given talent and then created an arrogance beyond comprehension. And destroyed the lives of 'many'women in the path.

only major pro athlete to go down THAT road, you are really deluding yourself.

Just for kicks, giggles, and to prove that point, I just did a one line google search for "Pro athletes who were notorious womanizers." Now, this list didn't go back very far into history, probably 30 years max. Woods was on the list....at Number Six.

Magic Johnson
Cristiano Ronaldo
Shawn Kemp
Evander Holyfield
Dennis Rodman
Tiger Woods

Now, any of us who play or follow golf consider Tiger Woods to be so much worse, because golf is CALLED "The Gentleman's Game", and the first rule of golf (for everyone except Patrick Reed) is honesty. The second most established rule (and most broken in friendly weekend matches, by consent aforehand in most cases) is "Play the ball as it lies, and play the course as you find it. When you can't do EITHER, do what's fair."

Now, for the vast majority, it follows that if Woods cheated so terribly in his private life, he MUST be a cheater on the golf course. But, even though he HAS on rare occasion fallen afoul of the rules, on MOST occasions, he just proved that he has encyclopedic knowledge of those same rules, and used that to his legal advantage. Whenever he has been assessed penalties, he for the most part accepted them and went on about his business without much fuss.

The complete polar opposite of Patrick Reed, who has cheated so many times that he has caused other players to break the unwritten "buddy rule" where they don't rat out each other for the most part, even if they suspect something amiss. Now, if they are playing with Reed, they will seek out a rules official, and if TV footage is available, tip them that they may want to take a close look there.

And the sad part for Reed is, it's unnecessary. The man has enough talent that he has already won The Masters, for cripes sake. The tournament that for a US Player is at least second behind the US Open, and perhaps even first, on the list of most coveted major wins.
