I know no longer understand what is targeting. Twice now players have led with their helmets against the ball carrier, the call on the field was targeting and both times they reversed the call. The latest one should have been text book targeting. It was called and then reversed. SMH

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?

• Put up goal posts

What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?

Feel the same way. Seems like it changes from week to week.

Can the running back be penalized for targeting?

No, which is part of the problem. RBs lower their head to lower their body to get better penetration, but if a tackler lowers helmet to meet runner, then they are hit with targeting. Well if have never played, i can tell you its seriously hard not to duck your head when a helmet is coming at your face, plus its probably safer vs having your head snapped back causing whiplash. So at last second you have to make serious effort to turn your head sideways on tackle so you are not leading with crown.

I think reducing head-head collisions is great but its almost impossible to stop under certain tackling conditions especially a player running at you. I agree that obvious targeting and launching should be penalized but tackling a player with the ball where helmets meet, some of those penalties are pure crap. The penalty on Heldt where he got unsportsmanlike was crap also.

The RB literally lowered his helmet to target the defender

RB should be kicked out.

How did you nor the officials see that. Watch again and you’ll see it. Bad call, thankfully reversed.

Amazing how people can’t see what is on video replay clear to most. Just shows we are not all able to see same thing lol. Crazy

The last one the RB initiated contact..***

I get why we have the targeting penalty, everyone does but the penalty itself can be such horsesh## half the time too. I couldn't tell you what's going to be upheld or not anymore these days though. I can confidently say "No that's not targeting, it'll be reversed." And then it'll stand and vice versa. No continuity with the penalty just like holding or pass interference. Too subjective.

Same with roughing the paaser. It's supposed to be like the NFL... which is fine, but if it is, you need to get NFL refs.
