ACTUAL retirement on the way? Today I actually told

one of the school districts where I work one day a week that I won't be back next year. Haven't decided about the other 4 days of the workweek. After completing this(the 50th) year of going into public schools, it is tough to think about stopping completely. I know it would give more time for Clemson sports more than 7 football games and an occasional baseball or basketball game in person and I don't think I can be called a "workaholic" but I still enjoy working with the little kids... not quite so much with the older ones but they are okay too. Maybe I can cut down to 2 or 3 days per week and hang around a couple more years. Maybe my joking response when asked about when I will retire will come true - and that has been, "When they roll me out the school door on a stretcher."

My mom taught public school for 40 years and the day she retired was the happiest day of her life lol. She still substitutes from time to time in the Summerville area to earn some extra $ but would never go back to full time.
Good luck to you in whatever you decide

Oh wow!! They say to Enjoy life, and if you enjoy your job, are happy, and don't forget what's important, I say do it YOUR WAY!
Unfortunately for me, I'd retire today if I could, but as it stands, I got to wait until 2059! Hopefully the good lord keeps me around to retire!

will be retired 6 years next may and have loved every minute.this is not meant to be a negative reflection on my 46 working years.enjoyed them too.but then realized that time was running out,and i wanted to pursue other interests that were being postponed for too long.the best thing about retirement is the freedom to choose whatever you want to do with your time.best advice is to stay active both mentally and physically.you now have the freedom to pursue whatever YOU want.just don't sit in a chair with a remote.

You'll know when the time comes if it ever does. I had had enough and just retired. I worried about how I would react, but after a week, I realized it was the best decision I had made since deciding to have the kids. Good luck what ever you choose.

71 more days for me. Owning and working a manufacturing business for 26 years takes a toll on your body. If you love what you do and your body is cooperating, keep on trucking brother.

Never fully understood why a person would work one more day than they had to. I'll be 76 YO in Feb and retired at age 54. Sold my companies and walked away from the work force. I know not every worker has that option, but I have friends today that don't have to work but still grind it out. That doesn't register with me.

of four, and all the rest are thoroughly enjoying retirement. Not me.
Tried it about 12 years ago at age 64, enjoyed it briefly, but the first call from a close friend had me jump right back into the fires of the business world. When a sister-in-law asked if I work parttime or fully, I replied, "Oh, it's only parttime...four, five or six-days-a-week, depending on what's going on!" Which provoked a lot of laughs.
I have my own joke now, telling others I'll probably work until age 100, then decide if I want to cut back the hours to three days-a-week.......lol.
So, I've just resigned myself to wearing the tag: workaholic....and surprisingly, I thoroughly enjoy it.
Best of luck to you, my Friend. I'm sure you and a whole lot of others are a hellll of a lot smarter than I am, regarding work!

Congrats on upcoming Retirement. It will the next chapter for your book of your life. Write it how you want. It will be your own and unique story. I’ve been retired almost a year and been busier than when I worked because it’s things I want to do and not what I need to do. Good luck and God Bless.
