ACCCG procedure if a team cannot play Saturday
Dec 13, 2020, 4:58 PM
|
|
In the case that Clemson or Notre Dame cannot compete on Dec. 19, the ACC says that the game will be a no-contest and Notre Dame will be the ACC champ. Some leagues have put in provisions to replace opponents for their title games, but the ACC is in a pretty good spot with the Playoff if anything were to happen this week.

No need for ND to even try to play. Just get COVID, a title and #2 playoff spot.

I wouldn’t describe just giving the ACC Championship to ND if they wuss out as being in a “pretty good spot.”
They have a week now to develop a little, ahem, cough cough and they get everything they want. Even if they were legitimately affected to level we were against them in Nov, anyone think they man up and play the game with their subs? Anyone? I didn’t think so.

This doesn't say Notre Dame is going to do that. Read it again.
Also, when has Notre Dame ever given you reason to suspect that they would be dishonorable and fake illnesses/positive tests to get out of a game? Can you cite even one?

That is just ignorant. Do you not think that either team or either coaching staff could be overcome with COVID cases? Come on, wake up.

I understand the Big XII procedure is that if Oklahoma or Iowa State cannot play, the next team up plays for the conference championship. That at least seems to emphasize going all out to try to play. ACC rules seem to incentivize not playing.

No, the ACC rules appear “incentivized” to give it to ND. Swoffies payoff must be as sizable as his buffet bill.

Yep, when they came up with the rules before the season started they knew ND would beat Clemson in the regular season and be the only unbeaten conference team.

It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if they did this, ND in the playoffs would be equally as fun and hopefully they do it somewhere I can attend the game. I prefer to watch ash whippins in person!

As the point spread increases in favor of Clemson, now up to 11, the more likely ND has a corona outbreak.

I’d much rather get to the CFP with no risk of injury, COVID, or losing like OSU.
We should refuse to play the ACCCG anyway.

I just don't see him doing that. Notre Dame would not do that, it would be a stain that would stick with them for a while. He also knows that unless it is a complete blowout, then they will still be in with 1 loss and matched #4 against Bama.
