PowerWheels.net

Anyone ever modded their kids power wheels to run on drill batteries or upgraded to the higher AH ones off of Amazon?

I'm looking at wiring in this
https://www.amazon.com/Wheels-Adaptor-Battery-Connector-Robotics/dp/B08J8C5LZM/

Then buying a couple of these
https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DCB205-2-Lithium-Battery-2-Pack/dp/B00KQU1ENG/

Am I asking for trouble with 12V motors?

The other option I'm considering is just swapping in a 33AH 12V Wheelchair battery similar to one of these

I do a lot of tinkering and repairing/modifying stuff.

None of it is on an item that costs a few hundred bucks that my kids won't use past age 6.

Well there's a few years to go until we're at that point.

We've gone through 4 and the batteries all crap out after a few months. Rather than let them rot we're trying to revitalize them.

get your replacement battery at batteries plus

They are super easy to swap with their warranty if they crap out.

I doubled up the battery in ours over covid last year.

Fun for a few days. 2 major issues:

1- plastic tires just spin with doubled power. Fun for drifting, but takes a while to get up to speed without traction.
2- you will burn the motor up.

I’m happy to tell you how I did it if your still into it. FYI- prob spent $75-$100

A couple of them are the ATV style with some rubber treads

Mar 29, 2021, 9:11 AM

If I wire in parallel I'd avoid the speed increase and just get a longer run time though, no?

Which batteries did you go with?

Replacement Battery for Fisher-Price Power Wheels 12-Volt Battery https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IL0XM3W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_B9DMWX8P9STHXESPRH5T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I got 2 of these for $30/ ea at the time. That way I could keep one on the charger.

It will increase power a lot and run time very little.

I may replace motor with something a little beefier one day... not today though.

You are assuming the motors are current limiting.

They aren't.

The higher amperage on the batteries the faster they will go.

Also, 11 yr warranty...I didn't buy it for the kids ride on

Mar 29, 2021, 9:14 AM

So it's for the wife's ride-on?

That'd make the Hitachi run like a Kubota.***

Also, the battery will recharge in 2.5 hrs

Mar 29, 2021, 9:18 AM [ in reply to Interesting timing. I just stuck a $250 battery in a $250 ]

Assuming this isn't hurting the ride on
