A commitment might as well be a crystal ball prediction

I’ve said this before, but once again it’s just weird that these recruits say these things. So when you set a date to commit to a school 5 months in advance to have more time to think and see more places, you’re knowing that by the time 5 months is up, you’ll choose one school.
I don’t want to accuse any recruits of anything, especially not Clemson commits. But I am positive there are many recruits out there who commit just to gain leverage, and to draw higher interest and offers from elsewhere. Committing to a school like Clemson can make you lots of money, but there are places where a top recruit can draw a multimillion dollar deal that they can’t pass up. So when recruits commit to Clemson, I am just going to be aware of that.
There’s nothing to be mad about lol, it’s just getting redundant.

I’d like to announce my commitment to the Woo Hoo and I am henceforth shutting down any reconsideration. Please respect my decision 🙏

You never know. They may get a deal that is outrageously good that makes them change course. Understandable.

Because they are going with what they know at the moment. They weren't expecting to get offered an half million dollars to buy their Mom a home she has never had. Things like that. It's pretty straightforward.

I used to follow recruiting with that best of 'em, but didn't pay particular attention to the individuals until they signed their LOI with Clemson on national signing day.
Now I just want until national signing day. It's gotten too ridiculous to spend time on. I say let the high schoolers and their parents have their 15 minutes....with someone who actually cares.

Especially since the portal makes it a year to year contract. It’s hard enough investing in these guys once they’re on campus.
So the new process is commit, commit to remain committed, likely sign (but perhaps flip on “signing day”), enroll, decide if you’re happy with the compensation and depth chart after year 1…field offseason bids from other programs…consider entering the portal to jump ship to the highest bidder…repeat…repeat…and maybe get a degree if there’s time.

You commit to accepting employment at Apple and a week before your start date, #### offers the same role at twice the salary and more vacation time. What will you do? These are jobs now. This kind of thing will happen from time to time.

It's tiresome and a grossly inaccurate word to designate them as.***
