Next MBB coach: Will Wade?

Mar 13, 2016, 1:11 PM

Went to Clemson. Currently coaching VCU.

I say give brad two more years and let Wade prove himself at VCU (maybe a tournament bid this year). If all goes well there and doesn't turn around in tigettown, ask him to sign on the dotted line.

Will Wade be an upgrade?

Nice pun.

And that's what the two years are for. Evaluation

Brownell won't get two more years. Next year is NCAAT or bye bye

My gut..

Mar 13, 2016, 1:33 PM

is that if we go to the NIT next year he will be back again. I think the buyout will still keep him around if he has a slightly above average year. DRad seems to like to keep bad coaches around, like Hewitt at Gtech.

We've been to 11 NCAA Tournements in our basketball ball programs history. I'm not sure making the Dance is our measuring stick for success. I actually miss OP. I enjoyed watching our teams tenacity and we we won a lot of games. He took us to the Tourney three times and even though we didn't get past the first round it was exciting!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's the measuring stick for every program..

Mar 13, 2016, 5:55 PM

Some teams are just bigger failures.

A coach who is successful at VCU is quite a bit different

Mar 13, 2016, 1:30 PM

than being successful at UNCA or Wright St.

VCU is a big time basketball job. We joke about mid-majors, but if you think Clemson would go into the Atlantic 10 and suddenly become a tournament team, you are mistaken.

It could be argued VCU is a much better job than Clemson.

That being said... I would love to have Will Wade. Winning at VCU is winning on a big stage.

That's what I was wondering...

Mar 13, 2016, 1:34 PM

Is coaching basketball at Clemson even a better job?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think it is....

Mar 13, 2016, 1:36 PM

I think it could be... but it is not right now.

The ACC, as a whole, is obviously better. However, coaching at VCU in the Atlantic 10 is a better job than coaching at Clemson in the ACC... at least right now, IMO

doesn't mean he wouldn't want to come to the ACC and build something, though

Re: I don't think it is....

Mar 13, 2016, 1:39 PM

I agree. The biggest selling point here would be to come coach for his alma mater.
He has at worst a consistent bubble team now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it would be hard to leave VCU, unless it's for a

Mar 13, 2016, 1:42 PM

"Texas" type job like Shaka did...

You are in a place where basketball is king, the recruiting ground is beyond fertile, and you are already recognized as a power...

getting him here would be a huge deal, IMO.

Mar 13, 2016, 1:59 PM

Yup. Worth a big dollar offer I think.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So funny

Mar 13, 2016, 2:33 PM

CoachBB isn't going anyplace. Sorry Tiger fans Keep looking for all the negatives that you can find about Clemson. A great university will survive such nonsense

He isn't going anywhere this year. Next is a different story depending on results

Lol you think I'm looking for negatives. That's funny. I have loved Clemson since birth.
Only college I applied to as a matter of fact.
I want what's best for Clemson. I'm not sure of brownell is what's best. I think if he can't get it done in year two of LJ it's time for a change.

Not finding negatives. Just trying to find solutions. It's a good alternative. Not everything is intended to be an extremist view.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No

Mar 13, 2016, 5:31 PM [ in reply to So funny ]

It's called love of Clemson and our athletic program. Would you like to bring TB back as well? This is a great day to be a fan of college hoops and guess what?? Our tigers are not even in conversation and haven't been for 5 yrs! But let's keep doing what we're doing. Makes perfect sense.

And even if he makes it to ncaa's next yr - then what? Be content and wait another 6?? NCAA 2016-2017 and ncaa's 2022-2023??? Yes - you are correct - let's just keep going this route

I for one am glad you are stopping. You are one of the most ignorant posters ever. You obviously think very highly of your own opinion, unlike the rest of us - RockHillTiger

That is the plan and the Catch 22 with BB.

Mar 13, 2016, 5:36 PM

Of course the NCAA Tourney is the goal and we want to see the Tigers win but I'm afraid a tourney birth gets Brad a 45 year contract.

Mar 13, 2016, 2:43 PM [ in reply to A coach who is successful at VCU is quite a bit different ]

Honestly I don't think it's close. VCU is by far a better job. They are in the ncaat almost every year. They have passionate fans that actually attend games. Clemson is a special city but so is Richmond, Va. They don't have a football team so their passion is their basketball team. Wade would be stupid to leave VCU for Clemson
