From 2015-2019 the most we ever had at one time was 9, which was 2018. The other years were 7 or less.

The 2018 roster had 14 Rivals 5 star recruits on it. I just based that on Rivals not other recruiting sites.

Has everything to do with it. We, the Clemson media and Dabo cherry pick the recruiting data. Sure, number wise we bring In 4* , sometimes a 4 by one service. But we were bringing in high 4* talent 96-97 range. Now our 4*s are more like 91-92 range.

exactly. Nowadays you gotta pick your poison at a minimum. Ideally you, sadly, need to both 1) pay to buy the best recruits, which we aren't CLOSE to doing and 2) PAY to portal the best available . At a MINIMUM you have to do one of the two. If you refuse both, which we definitionally are, you just won't compete. We're seeing the fruits of this refusal now. Sure it sucks that this is what the game is.. but you either do it or you die. We've died.

Been saying it for a while but some don't want to believe it:
If you aren't going to use the portal, better be very elite at HS recruiting. We are good, but not elite @ HS recruiting like our peers (uga/bama and osu).
Oh...and $$$ isn't the issue. We have 3rd string guys making $400K. When you refuse to pay the going rate for a 5 star you need based on some internal principal (although its legal), you get what you get.
Occasionally you see it stated on here that the QB is the only issue. It is a BIG issue....but not the only one---by a long shot. Roster management, hires, S&C, control (Billy Napier has this issue too), slow-walking needed adaptations, etc....

What donyoubthink 3rd stringers on Tex, Tex A&M,OH St etc make? Look at the teams that have climbed to greatness during pay for play. Do we have nil money? Yes. Do we have top nil money? No. There are outliers but look at the top 12 alumni base and booster money. Now do I think we shoukd be as bad as we are? No Dabos hires have set us back. There is no quick fix now unless you have the money to do it and we do not. So we will have to rebuild rather than reload. Still need to replace some coaches. Then start the rebuild of players.

Bush… we agree on a lot. We just have to disagree on the money issue
And no, not all third stringers, and I won’t mention the position/kid, do not make $400,000 at a lot of these schools as a third string guy that hardly plays. We highly pay kids who don’t play hardly at all, but are good kids, who show up, etc…. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that, but that’s not what other schools are doing. In essence, we are using money that could be going to five star kids and paying kids that don’t produce. If we did have Texas money or Ohio State money, then fine but that money could be used towards the players. We really need to improve the talent level. The talent is not as good as it used to be. That’s not the only problem, but it’s a big problem.
Money is not an issue insofar as fielding an elite team. Do we have as much money as Texas or Ohio State… No but you don’t need $1 billion to afford to buy a Ferrari.

I agree we could be using our money more wisely. I just honestly don’t believe we have enough to be able to afford an elite team. Unless we pick and choose which top players we pay and we can try to build around them with players we have coached up. I think that is the biggest the we are missing now are the 3-4 year 3-4 stars that are now elite.

We may be 9th but we do not have many boosters willing to give a player if needed several million extra dollars. But I truly do not believe we are 9th.

If you ask Google "what is Clemson football's rank in NIL", it will tell you #9. Maybe that is since the beginning of NIL.
If you ask "what is Clemson football's rank in NIL for 2025" then you get #26 overall and fourth in the ACC behind Miami, FSU and Ga Tech.
Like I said, it's on the internet so it may or may not be true.

I think the problem is nil doesn’t have to be public so there is no way to know how much is booster is giving. Nil is a secret and the big money boosters want it to stay that way.

at first glance we seem to be cquiring similar talent as we have in the past because many of the recruits have 4 stars beside their name but now the majority are the fringe 4 star types not the upper level, top 150 4 star prospects. There are 2 tiers of 4 stars named annually.

How many does GT and Vandy have? We pretty much have all 4 stars with a few 5's. The problem is the development and the position coaches. To many first timers with no experience that came in here.

Agree that our talent level is not what it was when we were playing for national championships, but we have enough talent to be 6-1 or maybe even 7-0 with our schedule. Our #1 problem is coaching. Our offensive & defensive game plans are head scratching, and we make no in game adjustments probably bc they just don’t know how. I didn’t even bring up poor player development or game preparation.
It’s more than just bringing in a new coordinator. We need an overhaul. I love what Dabo has done for the school, and maybe he’s the one to turn it around somehow, but it seems to me that he has convinced himself that all the magic was due to him alone. Be the CEO again, stop with the “Clemson offense “ bc it has sucked for a while now. Get some good coaches & assistants, and get out of their way.

Before Nil Dabo could recruit with the best of them. We are not getting the high school dudes we were getting before nil. Also, very little use of the portal has not filled those spots. As a result all the teams we play have as good or better talent than us. Put on top of that former players being hired as inexperienced coaches and here we are. Could not everyone but Dabo see this coming.
