Does it say legal tender on that $2? Then they shouldn't have a choice! Crazy!

Do we really need to do this any more?
I thought it was a unique and kinda cool idea for a small program not used to the big time back in 1977, by honestly, it's gotten a little "tired" over the past 40 years.
The fact that there are literally thousands and thousands of people wearing orange flooding the restaurants, bars, and hotels should speak to the economic impact without the $2 bill thing.
The point that Clemson fans bring a lot of money to the local economy is pretty easy to drive home without making service workers and cashiers, etc. deal with a deluge of a form of currency that is almost never used otherwise.
The owners of the establishments might still be impressed, but I feel sure the staff absolutely hate the $2 bills.
That's just my personal opinion.

I mean, we've been doing it for awhile and most people understand they're at a Clemson game with all the orange clad fans? Traditions are what make this "small" university unique.

Are you serious? I think this tradition is awesome and a great way for Clemson fans to spread the Clemson brand in a unique way. It's not all about the economic impact. Also hilarious to hear stories of the confused youngsters that think the bills are fake and won't take them.

Demonstrating economic impact in Atlanta for the game against Ga Tech was the primary reason for the tradition in the beginning.
"In 1977, Georgia Tech decided to stop playing football against Clemson. In a show of protest, students and alumni stamped $2 bills with Tiger Paws and used them in Atlanta to illustrate the money Tiger fans spent at athletic events. Today, fans still use $2 bills when attending away games."

I agree that it's a unique tradition, but I just think we may have outgrown it by this time.

Yeah...that's how traditions work. They start from something specific and grow to be larger than that reason and embody a bigger truth.
In this case..."little old Clemson" can hang with anybody.
Considering that we still feel a lack of respect, I'd say this tradition needs to be made bigger, not go away.

Yea. And this orange! Can't we change it to something more soothing? I mean come on. It's the 2000's now. Something like maybe pale lemon or Forrest green? Haven't we kinda grown past this silly orange? Isn't that right DueEast?

Maybe it's time to do away with running down the hill. After all, we only started doing it because the locker rooms were on that end of the stadium and it was the shortest route to the field.
Now that the locker rooms are in the west endzone does it really make sense to take buses all the way around the stadium?

$2 bills. I have run across some who think they are "toy" money but a call to the management always solved it. Being legal tender, they are required to accept it.
I love the tradition!

But many gentlemen's clubs make all their change to customers using 2 dollar bills. Their experience is that the patrons are more likely than not to slip those 2 dollar bills in those garters , than to take them home.

In PHX last year, we had locals asking us if we had $2 bills, then asking if we'd give them one.
Same in MIA with the OU fans.
This year a bank in PHX advertised to Tiger fans that all branches had $2s available.
It's our calling card. It's unique. It's part of the brand. Not taking them would be like Coca Cola coming in a blue can.

Went to a Wells Fargo branch in Scottsdale. They had $200 wrapped stack and several in there were stamped with Tiger paws. I thought that was pawsome.

Yep, and two dollar bills do not buy much anymore. You need to take a sack full of them.

The most fun I have talking to non Clemson folks on a trip revolves around the $2 bill. From the Latinos who served me supper and, after my healthy tip in $2 bills, asked me to explain it; to the local in the grocery store parking lot who rolled down his window and asked, "you have any of those $2 bills?" and then proceeded to trade me some 1s for a $2; to the parents of Clemson football players who had never seen one before and did not know the tradition....I always love the $2 bill interaction.

I went to Clemson legends party tonight and cj spiller to sign one of my $2 bills. Most vendors take them and love to hear the story behind it. Keep it up tiger fans, this is part of our tradition.
