1981 Football Team Documentary

Jul 20, 2022, 2:03 PM

The ACC Network is going to have a documentary on the 1981 Team on August 22nd. Why is no one on here talking about this? Is there any chance they can get Fridge on there? I was born a decade later so I’d love to hear from all the former players and Danny Ford and whoever else is going to be on there.

Are we sure it is not just a re-airing of an older program?

Jul 20, 2022, 2:29 PM

I seem to remember a "documentary" on the '81 season being done way back when Jim Phillips was still around as Voice of the Tigers?

Yes twenty years later ACCN is going to air another documentary that they didn’t originally produce but the guys at Raycom Sports did. Go find a tinfoil hat.

probation on top of the two years levied by the NCAA.

Not sure I trust “The ACC” to produce an unbiased documentary on the 1981 Clemson Tigers.

I don’t need a tin foil hat to be suspicious that it will not be a total celebration of Clemson’s accomplishments that year.

I saw that on twitter, it's called "We're #1"

Will definitely be watching.

This is long over due in my opinion. I watched the 1981 win the on NBC in the orange bowl as a kid. The ACC network should do a documentary on all of the conference National Championship teams.

They did one for Virginia for just becoming #1 in the AP Poll in 1990.

I very rearly turn it to anything E$ECPN except for the games I want to watch. I had no clue they were doing a documentary. I will watch. Thanks for the heads up.

Does this mean they’ll have something to add to the rotation so the Coach K documentary won’t be shown daily?

I will add, they did do a nice job with the History of the ACC Tournament series earlier this year. Even though there weren’t many fond memories for a Clemson fan to relive, that was a quality production.

Can’t wait to watch this 81 team documentary. Hope they have lots of new footage with Coach Ford.

Sounds great. Looking forward to it. '81 defense was superb. Offense putting up over 80 against Weak Florist not bad either.

I don't know what younger folks think about current status but I was in 8th ir 9th grade and the idea that our Tigers were, all the sudden, no 1?! It seemed a truly magical year. That win required talent and luck, but most of all a will to win that could not be broken. Beating Nebraska. at that time, was a tall order for any team.

I remember watching it at my late grandfathers house....
