Sure, our tax payer funded teachers should be able to promote political assassinations. That is just a dumb take on this decision.

They were fired for being stupid and arrogant. Most of them think they are smarter than the rest of us.
I don't know who they are or what they said, but I am sure they deserved to be fired. I remember the Kennedy's, MLK assassinations, along with the attempts on George Wallace, President Reagan, and candidate Trump. Now Charlie Kirk who held no elected office like 4 of the 6 mentioned.
All the assassins were Marxist/Leftist (one Palestinian). This is just their plan to intimidate patriots and conservatives. The same reason they let criminals out of jail to kill again, like the guy in Charlotte.
Go Tigers, Beat Syracuse!

it was wielded against the right. But, now that it is being equally applied to the left, you don't support it.
Do you see the irony here? Do you recognize the hypocrisy? I am willing to bet you don't due to an overinflated self-righteous attitude.

Cancel culture originated on the right with Colin Kapaernik. Look it up in case you were still in diapers when it happened.

But pure unprofessional behavior and spewing such disgust concerning a man loosing his life for simply speaking his mind is. NO ONE should ever tolerate such ignorance. Any one who applauds what happened to Charlie Kirk should be permanently removed from any form of influence. Professors - Teachers - etc..

Echoing another poster (A1A), it is not Cancel Culture but rather Consequence Culture. Cancel Culture occurs when you disagree with someone and try to prohibit the person from engaging in general society because their views differ from yours. Consequence Culture is where people are actually confronted with the consequences of their choices. Behavior that glorifies an assassination should not be celebrated or even condoned.

Tenure has gotten pretty rare. If it's somebody with tenure, they are likely bringing in significant money and unlikely to be fired.

Yes , and now most likely the University will come under fire itself , and lawsuits to follow. This sort of situation stinks in so many facets. What is free speech ? What is considered too far ? How much leeway do public institutions such as Clemson have in matters like these ? I'm sure we haven't heard the last of the fired , or seen the end game of Clemson's decision. Will be interested to watch as it develops. Finally , something that captures my full attention.

The character of those fired is no different from those who celebrated James Earl Ray or Oswald. They have no place in polite society and certainly should not be influencing young minds on taxpayer dollars.

No. It’s a process that takes time when you fire professional employees. They are protected by law, and they can be fired, but you have to take the right steps. Otherwise, you open yourself up to lawsuits that can pay them a fortune. You wouldn’t want them to be rewarded for their stupidity, I’m sure.

Glad to see Clemson has the backbone to stand up for what's right and good!!! Hopefully the Demo political leaders will learn something from this, they have all stood up and publicly spewed and fueled their hatred for what's good and righteous. The Bible proclaims that in the end days, the evil people will embrace all that is evil and call it good and hate all that is good!!

Oh, they have free speech---nobody impeded their ability to make statements in support of political violence.
But the law says they are not immune to the consequences of free speech that harms an employer's public reputation. If you can't make that distinction, you are part of the problem.

Has no impact on freedom of speech. You, and these faculty members, have the freedom to say what you want. However, it does not say without ramifications to your employers reputation or image. They said it and Clemson took the action they felt they needed to in order to maintain the employment contracts. That covers all remarks that impact the employer reputation. Both got to exercise their rights. Short sided employees got canned..employer now has to work to offset damage done by said employees.

The first amendment doesn't allow you to yell fire and a crowded theater and to speak favorably of a murder of an innocent person just having a discussion over political views, you should be fired. A sick position that reflects directly on your employer is just cause for the firing.
So much for the 1st amendment.

You're a DA if you think freedom of speech saves you on these matters. Freedom of Speech allows me to say for example "I wish the CEO of my company died." But I GUARANTEE you if they caught wind of me spouting that nonsense on social media, I'd be fired because that's a bad reflection of the company.
Quit being f##king stupid.

This is not about cancel culture nor is it an infringement on free speech. Those fired still have free speech. But that action comes with responsibility and consequences. Political disagreement and debate is one thing but calling for assassinations, although indirectly, and gleefully expressing comments over a tragic death is UNCALLED for. Frankly, its demonic in my opinion. These are not character traits anyone should want teaching our young adults. This is all aside from their apparent judgement as well. To make such statements on a public platform was just dumb. Another trait I don't want to see in an educator.

Agree that it is morally repugnant coming from those that are supposedly hired to be "educating" our youth---but the bigger issue (from a legal standpoint) is that Clemson's public reputation has been damaged by these statements....and there is ample evidence that it has been. It would be nearly impossible for a plaintiff to make a case that Clemson's public reputation hasn't been damaged.

Kirk is dead, due to (apparently) a politically motivated assassination..
1
Sep 16, 2025, 11:12 AM

|
..how does one get around celebrating his death, while avoiding the issue of why he is dead? If he's not assassinated, obviously he's not dead. So are the people celebrating Kirk's death saying political assassination is okay and protected by Freedom of Speech? I'm merely trying to see what the celebrants argument is. Yes, I know Charlie said stuff that pissed people off, I completely understand that issue....

Did any Clemson employees mock the assassination of those politicians
Sep 16, 2025, 11:19 AM

..in Minnesota?
If so, should they should be fired too?
If so, I guess they should do some digging out of fairness.
This is obviously a political gray area, so I am curious what people here think.

I don't know why it is so hard to understand my question. Do you not think any conservatives work at Clemson and if so, they possibly mocked the deaths of any people on the left?
it's an honest question, sorry it confused you so much.

Completely disengenuous because he already knew the answer to his "question". I can't argue with idiots who use straw man arguments to make some obscure point.

"But nobody did......I wonder why? I think you know why."
I don't know why it is so hard to understand my question. Do you not think any conservatives work at Clemson and if so, they possibly mocked the deaths of any people on the left?
it's an honest question, sorry it confused you so much.
They are smart enough to not make stupid statements on social media, you are looking for something that is not present. I am as conservative as it gets and any murder is WRONG

I would hope all the faculty would want to make America great again. Why is this a bad thing? Unless you're from Russia or China, why does this bother you?

You mean the ones that were murdered by a fellow demoncrat appointed by Governor Walz because they were left enough?
If a Clemson employee celebrated their murder then should be fired for the exact same reason.

Anyway, just because you don’t like what they’re saying doesn’t make them “so-called” professors. It’s not surprising that the right so often positions itself against learning, science, and education.

We oppose indoctrination and grooming which happens a lot in the public school setting these days.

What is indoctrination to you? This is a genuine question. I'm not asking for specific examples, but your definition of indoctrination? And in your opinion, what is the line when it crosses from differing perspective to indoctrination?

When I was growing up we never even knew the politics of sexual preferences of our teachers. Nothing like that was discussed.
Now, the leftist teachers want to train students to think like they do and believe the things they believw politically and sexually.
That is wrong.

In your world women can have testicles and men can get pregnant.
That’s not education, it’s indoctrination.

I think the right decision but ultimately the courts will determine that. The tight rope on the 1st Amendment is shaking and the attorneys are working. If the faculty members have tenue, this will be very interesting.

tactless posts and bias, one if not both profs taught courses that are worthless to a student's ability to get a real job and make a living after college anyway. Such courses and programs shouldn't exist and be allowed to waste student, taxpayer, and "scholar"ship money.

Cheaper to fire the employees and deal with the lawsuits they incur than to deal with the wrath of the authoritarian Trump administration.

I understand the decision the University made; however, it is likely that other faculty members have also made inappropriate comments about other political figures, regardless of their affiliation. Did they fire them? I don't know, but it better be equal treatment to anybody who does or says anything inappropriate. If anybody made an inappropriate comment about an everyday citizen, they should be fired as well. I have seen many inappropriate comments on this board that just drive me crazy, but I understand there are a lot of idiots in this world. As a military man, I've learn the importance of dignity and respect, selfless service, integrity, courage, and duty. I wish everybody, including our leaders, would practice that. This right vs left crap is a cancer in our society. Many of you are feeding into it. Take a look in the mirror! Ask what you are doing to make things better for this country instead of insulting people.
Now that I got that off my chest, I love my Tigers and will never jump off the bandwagon even while they are having a bad season so far. GO TIGERS!

Celebrating a murder or assassination is a little different than inappropriate comment.
They were fired for being stupid. Voluntary separation. The University will survive without them.
