Ray Ray movie

I have a question. First let me preface by saying,the Chickens always make such a BIIIIIIG deal out of TB pulling his scholarship. That said, how did RR finsih his degree at Clemson. Was he placed on medical? Did IPTAY pay for it,was it the Trust fund that paid for it ?



I always assumed it was a Medical.

RR and his Brother sure LOVE Clemson. Read his brother has already moved back into the area and wants to WORK for Clemson and that RR wants to do the same. Sort of kills another Chicken Myth doesn't it ?

They can say what they want. Disney and Ray Ray are promoting Clemson at the box office.

Terry Don Phillips gave Ray Ray a scholarship in return for him helping out in our athletic department.

Pulling the scholarship got us bad press in some of the media and a good bit of Clemson alums had complained to the school and to our ad. I’m not positive but I would think that played a role in Terry Don offering an ad scholarship to him.

It’s ridiculous what some people will say. Ray Ray redshirted his first year. He graduated in 4 years, so he had already graduated even though he had an extra year of eligibility left. Tommy Bowden (not Terry Don) offered him a position as a graduate assistant so that he could still be with the team, get all the team benefits, earn some money and get free education towards his masters degree (since he had already graduated). Ray Ray got pissed and went to Howard. Because he’d already graduated, he didn’t have to be released from anything. TB simply chose not to give him a scholarship wile going to school for his masters.

This is exactly correct. There was some bad press at the time

but in truth Clemson and Bowden did a lot for RR. RR was a graduate who wasn’t going to contribute to the team in his final year and Bowden offered him a grad assistant role that would allow him to continue to go to school for free and get his grad degree, and get paid and get work experience. But yes, he also yanked his scholarship, and that’s all that mattered to the Gamecocks and media. It was unfortunate but I still say Bowden looked out for him as best he could.
