Questions after sleeping on it.

I'm still as shocked as I was last night. Totally unexpected result.

Here are a few questions I woke up with.

1. Zero sacks? The allegedly best DL in the country got zero sacks?
2. How many receivers ran a crossing route last night?
3. How many times did a TE run straight down the seam?
4. How many times did a LB not pick up a RB coming out of the backfield for a pass?

If Clemson had scored 21 points in the third quarter on those three possessions and gone on and won the game 35-13, I'd still have those questions.

I have no answers. I just have questions.

If we squeak that out more of the appreciate every win and how hard it is to win on the road and fans just not satisfied with wins anymore. I hope this is a west va type moment for Dabo and truly causes some hard looks. He is our guy but something has to give. Kicking was atrocious, Cade was atrocious first quarter but got better, WRs dropped easy ones. We gave away 14 points easily. Other than some Freshman play I don’t see many positives. With a radically different OC our first half offense looked exactly the same as last year.

Bret....to answer your questions.
1) We were lied to. We are not even close in DL talent.
2) Crossing routes are not done by Dabo teams. Period.
3) TE passes using the middle of the field are not done by Dabo teams. Period.
4) Pork Chop has the LB's and the entire defense playing so tight mentally they act and play confused and are out of position most of the time and tentative when they are in position.

I’m afraid I’ll be sitting in my seats in a few weeks surrounded by a bunch of fsu fans as we get beaten into submission. It’ll be just like the old days.

Those are excellent points and will resurface from game to game if not addressed. Why did Thomas and Mascoll come back - freshman DEnd was the only guy that played with zeal. LBs were embarrassing. This was Duke for God's sake - had Ivy League transfers whipping our "top 5" O & D linemen.

Duke QB had multiple throw-aways to avoid the sack.

Good point, he was very poised. And had time to react.***

Agreed. Why did we not take any shots into the endzone? Even in red zone we won’t even try to throw a fade to Randle or Collins. It’s just so frustrating and confusing.

Bret, you just explained nicely what I've been trying to post. Thank you. We are not "just clean up the mistakes " away from being a great team. Dabo is going to have his windshield mentality, he has to. But he's also got to know there are major systemic problems. Mind boggling.

Nothing from last night gave me any kind of optimism going forward.

We have a bad coaching staff filled with former players and friends of Dabo. That's the answer to all of your questions.

I have the same questions, and even more disappointment.

HUGELY disappointed in the lack of pressure applied by our much vaunted defensive line. From what I saw last night, Parker needs to be playing one of the end spots, instead of XT or Mascol. And the fantastic Peter Woods was a total nonfactor. You couldn't even tell he was in the game. Duke must have a much better offensive line than anybody gave them credit for. Either that, or we are once again highly OVER-RATED at all the D-Line spots.

But, even more disappointing for me, was the fact that our offensive linemen could not provide good pass protection for Cade. Passing out of the Air Raid is predicated on getting the ball out quickly. But, it seemed Cade had at least one guy running right at him every time he dropped back, before he could even blink. As a result, the whole passing game looked just as out of sync as it has the last two years with DJ at the helm.

On the Duke offensive side, they obviously found something schematically that got us to bust coverage on wheel routes, or other routes in the flats. They lived on that all night. And the fact that we could not get the ball carrier on the ground when we first hit him was MADDENING all night. Almost lost count of the times we should have had a tackle for loss, only to let them get away and gain positive yards or a crucial first down.

I don't really want to see anybody grading out and getting a helmet sticker out of this game. As a team, just way too much lack of execution for that. Film study is going to be ugly for coaches and players alike on this one.
