Question on this season......

I got one question and one only.....
How many of you feel that we have a realistic chance at surprising everyone and actually winning a national championship this year?
I for one... think we can.

I'm one of those that cringes every time I hear anyone mention CLEMSON and NC in the same sentence. I can't even make myself believe that might happen.
Go back and watch last years' near disasters. Watching those games again, one almost has to wonder how did we win the ACC. We struggled against very weak teams, and lost to some average teams. If we've improved that much, then our Spring/fall ball must have been earth-shaking, and they are keeping it very secret. I see us going 7-5 to 10-2, and probably 9-3. 11-1 would be an absolute miracle, and 12-0 would require heavenly intervention.
So no - no NC this year. Maybe in 2-3 years when the fabulous recruits are starters. Maybe.

first halfs but the offense was still good enough to win almost every game..the defense just let us down.

After last year, the sky is the limit for those boys. You'll never hear me complain again about a single negative that happened last year because plain and simple they:
-Won the conference after 20 years. -Went to a BCS Bowl. -Won 10 games.
Of course we have negatives that happen, but that team last year surprised even the most devoted, optimistic Tiger fan. If I had to throw out a guess on this year's team, I'd say 9-10 regular season wins, another ACC Championship appearance at least. But we do have the pieces to win the whole sha-bang.

It would really be a surprise - too much uncertainty on either line.
Of course, no one picked the '81 team to do it, either.

Its a bell curve, if I were to define what the most likely

probability is, I'd say a 10 win season. A 14-0 season (NC season) is probably as likely as us having a 6 win season, IMO.

It takes a lot more than having the best players & coaches.

I think it takes a heck of a lot of luck. One on one matchups? I can rationalize us beating anyone on any given day.
A 14 game winning streak? We just ain't there yet.

Part of the ability to win anything in life is based upon

determination...a will to win. We saw last season what our defense and offense could do when they set their minds to it. Therefore, training, discipline and motivation by the staff and among the team members themselves become the keys. I'll approach every game believing we can win, and I am convinced, thus far, that there is NOT an opponent we can't beat. Thus, I choose to take one game at a time and hope the staff and the team have that will to win!

Not there yet, here's why

Struggled on short yardage situations on offense last year, and Morris has hinted that has not improved yet.
Even if the defense becomes some miracle team, a championship team has to pick up 4 and 1's when they need to.
As much as I love our offense, I've come to believe that defense does win championships, and it's not just a saying. Good thing we're bringing in horses on D next year.
Let's shoot for a few ACC championships and state championships in the mean time. I hate hearing any player ever mention a national championship. It's too much like 2008.

Largely new lines and a new DC. However, I would not be surprised if we were in Charlotte again.

It can totally happen. All it takes is playing your best every single week. IMO, we were better than every team we played last year. We are this year too. Just gotta bring it 110% every game and it can happen
