Question - Over next 10 years how many times will UGA and Clemson play?
Jan 12, 2022, 9:10 AM
|
|
Is it safe to say counting regular season and post season it could be 5-7 times?
In all seriousness, I don’t think either team is going anywhere and it almost seems like an annual collision course each season between the teams.
Your thoughts?

Not ever team gets to play in the All Cupcake Conference and backdoor into the playoffs without a challenger. Try not to lose to Pitt, Boston College or Syracuse this year so you can get boat raced in the playoffs again!!

SEC East had one other ranked team at season’s end, though.

Georgia deserved the NCG praise (not the SECCG), but it wasn’t because of the vaunted conference foes…

I wish they played every year. The Clemson and Georgia fans both want it. Both teams could drop a cream puff, and start the annual Border Battle of I-85. It would once again turn into one of the best rivalries in the country like it was in the 70s and 80s.

Wow an actual reasonable dog poster. What you know? Might want to talk with your other dog poster that says only two elite programs are GA and Bama.
Hey GA finally got over the hump and is now in the elite category. I said I’d wait until y’all got that NC to say that.
But yeah I’d say Clemson, Bama, and OSU are at the top and will meet pretty regularly.
USC, OK, LSU, and maybe ND are next tier and could break through to be consistent year in and year out.

No idea.
Clemson made the CFP 6 times in a row and never ran into UGA even once. When does Clemson make the playoffs again? UGA? It's much harder to predict than it was a couple years ago.
I'm pretty certain 'Bama will be back next year, as will Ohio State. I'm less so about Clemson and UGA. Maybe they both make it next year. I'm not sure about Clemson due to the recent staff changes, the NIL, and the transfer portal. For UGA it's the usual concerns, mainly playing 'Bama, QB development, and offense.
How soon does play off expansion happen? Will it expand to 12 teams? Etc...
Lots of variables.

I’d say it’s pretty safe to say Georgia isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, unfortunately for the ears of Tiger fans. Their recruiting is consistently top 3 or 4 and they develop their players. They have had an increase in talent over the last few years and that’s not the case for Clemson.

UGA also runs off and runs through as much talent as any program in the country.
They simply do not develop talent as efficiently as Clemson. In comparison, as talented as Clemson has been under Dabo we've done more with less. I don't think the calculous has really changed for UGA.
They've always recruited well. They caught a break this year in that field was full of weak-teams in comparison to past CFP's. They beat 'Bama's worst CFP team ever. 'Bama was flawed all season, so losing to UGA being down their two best WR's and two starting CB's isn't that surprising.
I don't think Kirby has suddenly figured "it out". He was fortunate this season, and it's unlikely UGA becomes "elite" every year the same way 'Bama, Clemson, and to a lesser degree OSU have been.
They had a great year and will receive a short-term boost from recruiting. Otherwise, I don't think much has changed.

1977, the start of the modern era of Clemson football, it became one of the best rivalries in the country through the early 1990's. To me it was a better rivalry game than the USuC one. Ford and Dooley made it a great clash. Anyway, being only 70 miles apart it and separated by the Savannah River, by God, it should be played every year. Go Tigers!!!!

2 of those Georgia will win, 4 of those Georgia didn’t want to be there and it doesn’t matter because this next recruiting class is so good no one will ever beat them.

Always have enjoyed when we play UGA. Only issue I’ve had over the years is UGA has outsmarted us dramatically on what years we play them. Like the last two matchups, the year before we started our CFP run, and the first year after it ended. I always feel like they just catch us on the right year. Just the way the old cookie crumbles! Let’s play more!
