Dalvin Cook

That kid has to do what's best for him. If that's Florida, so be it. If he ends up coming back to us, so be it. He seemed torn the whole time, and it's his life. Anyone "adult" who goes after a kid for going to another school needs to look at their own life and rethink some things.

Seems like this happens a lot to us. Of course I'm sure I just remember ours more than when it happens to others

It doesn't happen to Clemson more than any other teams. We're just paying closer attention. Kids decommit all the time. But anyone who goes after a kid for that has problems.

No problem with a kid changing his mind. Thankfully it

wasn't at the last minute. No, Clemson needs to move in another direction. Let someone else handle the drama because a lot of the players just want the attention.

I agree, just wish that they wouldn't commit so early, if there is any question as to where they want to play football, they shouldn't commit. Dabo said it best "we will keep recruiting you without the commit". Just becomes a huge let down when they do that.

It's tougn to pull a kid from his home state

A kid's home state offers a sense of comfort with built-in friends and family. The state of SC is as strong player for player as most any state - Fla and Ga just have more numbers to pull from which is why out-of-state recruiting throughout the beautiful South is so important.
Fortunately the town of Clemson, our university, our football program, our coaches, our alumni and our fans have a lot to offer. Go Tigers!

I think Cook is from Miami. Gainesville isnt exactly close. I'd agree if he were going to Miami. I think this is about the bill of goods Muschamp is able to get these guys to believe.

That's Muschamp's job !! Not saying his tactics are on the up and up but his job is to get players !!

The decommited are annoying but understandable. What really grinds my gears is that this kid and the kid from Texas begged our coaches for a scholarship, then turn their backs on the program.

I guess it just shows the immaturity coaches deal with. Often these guys dont know what they really want and are succeptible to the most recent sales pitch

My question is...
Apr 7, 2013, 12:46 PM
|
|
How did Florida manage to get this guy to shut down his recruiting...something that we seem to be incapable of doing....closing the deal, so to speak.

Our recruiting is fine. And we have two really good RBs coming in this fall.

sold that both RB coming in will perform at the highest level and will assuredly not get injured in the process?
We need more RBs, and quality ones at that. You will not convince me otherwise.

Howard came to Clemson b/c we offered him the opportunity

to play RB. Auburn wanted him as a DB. I think he has his heart settled on a position he was simply not meant to play. Him being a senior doesn't exactly instill hope that he will become an elite RB. All 104.9 personalities seem to unanimously agree as well that Howard will be an average back at best. I hope I'm wrong...he just doesn't seem to have the fluidity and natural skill as some of our previous backs.
The rest of the backs will probably have an opportunity to push for a starting position Howard's senior year, more than likely Dye. By then, Brooks will have hopefully put on an additional 10-20 lbs of muscle...

than "fluidity". I'm reserving judgement till I see him playing healthy. He wasn't last year.

I believe we have more depth at RB than Fla has.Rod will be our starter then you have Howard, the kid from Ga.who is coming in and the kid from Kentucky. We also have a couple are more RB's on our roster.

Not exactly

This is Hot Rod's last season. He'll be gone when Cook would've arrived. Do you mean Zac Brooks from Arkansas? Haven't seen much out of him yet. He's a bit small to be 6' 1"...don't know how effect he will be with a pass rush. DJ Howard has been average...I have always thought this and the coaching staff seems to agree. It looks like we're pegging our hopes on two freshman coming in with Gallman and Dye. I understand why we lost Cook...never was solid with us to begin with, but I think we need to go after another quality RB and I'm sure the coaching staff will do just that.
This situation doesn't necessarily worry me, I just don't understand those he say we have enough RBs b/c we don't...especially for our offense. I think we look good for CJ Fuller, but no offense to him, I don't think he's in the same class as Cook.

I agree that Cook was never all-in with Clemson ... too much family pressure pushing him to Florida. Lets redouble our efforts on Elijah Hood. I think he is as good a prospect as Cook.

With the depth at OL, CJ FULLER could develop into a Marcus Latimore type of rb. This kid has power and breaker way speed along with no wasted motion. quickness to go along with his power and speed.
