Dear T-Balm, I saw your post about Staley and have questions

1. Previously I created an only-half-sarcastic topic suggesting that we flash mob in front of Neff to promote the hire of Amanda Butler as MBB's Head Coach.

https://www.tigernet.com/clemson-forum/message/nctigs-viztiz-suggestion-would-be-to-use-tomorrow-nights-32520989

This is at least the third post I have made to suggest that Amanda Butler should be seen as a viable candidate when the time comes to replace Brownell.

Yet, I see no response from you in that thread, or any other thread, no TU or comment, no response at all. One would think that as you suggest your post is solely about raising up women, then you would have wanted to previously comment on one of my threads as well.

But then you have also suggested that we should hire the Coots' WBB Head Coach instead. And I find it hard to fathom that a true Clemson fan would seriously consider such a move. As a Clemson fan it makes no more sense than if someone suggested we should have sought to hire Spurrier instead of Dabo. But it doesn't surprise me that an avowed Liberal like yourself would purport such. And I think that's the problem: your post comes off as being about more than simple gender.

Indeed, not only have you ignored Butler, at one point in your thread, someone else has to suggest the possible hire of LSU's Mulkey for you. You agree, but unfortunately it wasn't your initial go-to any more than it was your suggestion to hire the Coach from Iowa who had just beaten Staley's team.

So, I ask, could it be maybe that your post was more so about Race and not Gender? More so about Politics and not Basketball? And then, could it be that you simply wanted to hide your intended "racial arrogance/preference" behind a post that was only superficially about Gender?

Personally, I think it's "yes" on both accounts.

2. I also noted that when someone immediately responded that Staley was a "race baiter", your direct response was, and I quote:

"I don't care. I am contending that she could do a better job coaching our men's team than Brownell. (I)f you would like to argue along or against those merits then feel free to join in."

And yet in your "discussion", I see no actual points about Brownell's, nor even Staley's, Coaching style, methods, or tactics. Indeed, you only make summary statements about Staley's team such as "they are a well-oiled machine with tremendous fundamentals". Well then, what fundamentals? What does Staley's team do that Brownell's didn't?

Further, you haven't actually analyzed anything: Brownell's use of the 3-guard offense, Brownell's propensity for allowing poor shooters to shoot at will from the 3-point line, the failure of Brownell's teams to utilize offensive movement and/or screening on a consistent basis, the failure to consistently find good shooters like Tyson or Hall when defensive matchups favored the tactic, Brownell's failure to utilize Zone defensive concepts when teams like Louisville (LOL) are somehow "too athletic" for us, Brownell's failure to succeed at "must wins" such as Miami, UNC, or Louisville, etc., ad nauseam.

Indeed, you've made no specific nor comparative tactical arguments about either Coach.

So again, even as you state otherwise, it simply looks like you've manipulated a topic so you can post explicit racial preferences instead of actual arguments about Coaching. Basically, all you have done is state a political opinion carefully insinuated as a Basketball post.

Secondly, whether you are a Staley fan or not, the treatment of race, and indeed "race baiting" is a topic that must be dealt with appropriately, not arrogantly. You cannot arrogantly dismiss the subject because it fits your narrative. Arrogance about race infers preference, and that, indeed is nothing but racism itself.

Likewise, we've learned the powder keg that the topic of race can be, and the insistence that society has for treating the subject appropriately. Indeed, ask Danny Pearman and Cale Gundy whether it "matters" if the topic of race is handled appropriately when discussing the qualities of a Coach. But I guess that's the point: you pointedly appeared to want to give Staley a pass on her ability to appropriately handle the topic of race. I have to ask whether you've made it a point in the past to give white coaches the same pass. I doubt it.

3. One point that appears to be deleted now is a comparison between Staley and the late John Thompson. I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Thompson on occasion, and I would suggest that Ms. Staley is far from his equal. Mr. Thompson grew up in a time far more difficult than what Ms. Staley has faced, and for her or anyone else to appropriate his courage is entirely ludicrous and insulting.

It was also suggested that Mr. Thompson's own tactics were intentionally brusque, and indeed, "forced" people to "rethink" their predispositions and narratives in dealing with either him or his players. I couldn't agree less.

That may have been what you intended, and it may be a tactic that Ms. Staley uses, but it certainly wasn't a tool that Mr. Thompson routinely reached for, especially in his later years. He may have been aggressive in fighting for advantages for his players, but he wasn't that presumptive of other people's narratives or motives. Indeed, I doubt there was a presumptive or racist bone in the man's body.

So, in conclusion, I would suggest that it's time that you and possibly Ms. Staley should do some soul searching. You both should stop presuming that you know how the rest of us feel, or that you've got anything at all to teach the rest of us about Race. Whatever your personal opinions are, they are your own, and they are subject to the same failures and predispositions as any other person. May be even more so. Whether you are Liberal, Progressive, empathetic to Women's causes, full of white guilt, African-American, etc. is meaningless. You hold no innate "moral high ground" on this subject, and it's time that people stop acting as if they have both won and hold such ground. Indeed, that is only your own bigotry.

He is just trying to get everyone riled up. If he cared about women he would ask a question like what women would make a good hire at MBB? Someone should be the first at some point. Then you could discuss the candidates.

Just pushing staley shows his true agenda.

There is obvious validity in the question you posed as well as an obvious answer. The question would be dismissed out of hand and labeled as chauvinistic.
Although once accepted as common knowledge, no one would publically verbalize, illustrate, or write the obvious answer for fear of being demonized by the massive Leftist Propaganda Machine and the Hive Mind that guides both the activist liberal press corps and the national television news media as they are always in a state of collusion. The more pressing concern is why has a woman never been named to an NFL head coaching position? I'm pretty sure there is already a token assistant in existence and it's not remotely plausible that it was a merit based hire. It's extremely doubtful that it occurred organically; likely preconceived from the top, a cosmetic move and part of a larger facade probably with Commissioner Goodell's finger prints all over the blueprints. FWIW, Goodell is not only a registered Democrat but a long time contributor to the DNC—

I think 'Balms favoritism regarding Staley is the fact that she gets results on a national scale - regardless of methods.

I also noted that he didn't make reference to the Iowa Coach that just got finished beating Staley's team. Like Butler, she also happens to be white.
