Pearl Harbor Day

Dec 7, 2020, 11:00 AM

December 7, 1941. I'll never forget that day. I was between Jacksonville and Waycross, Georgia, when the announcement of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor came over the radio. I couldn't grasp the entire picture but knew I would somehow become involved. This was now a war. I had registered for the draft just a few days earlier, on my 20th birthday anniversary on Nov. 25. In just a few short months all of my buddies and I were in one of of our military branches. The rest is history.

December 7, 1946. I will never forget that day. I was visiting Mary Lynn Donnally, a beautiful young lady at Florida State Univ. in Tallahassee. I asked her if she would marry this old wind bag and she said "YES". I was on Cloud 9. We were married on Sept. 3, 1947, and shared many happy days before her passing on March 8, 2013.

December 7, 2020. 79 years after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and I'm still here. During these years I've been to Hawaii several times and each time I have visited the Arizona Memorial. I've always rendered a salute and prayer for those men who lost their lives in the attack. Thanks to all the women and men who have given their all for this great country.

If my math is correct you are 99.God bless you. There are so few of you guys left ,and even fewer who are willing to talk about it.
I am not going to get into a political discussion, other than to say I wonder how some of our Leaders have let this country down in the last decade.
Maybe they should talk to you, but I doubt they would listen.

One of the things that stirs me about the Arizona, is that her crew is still there manning their stations. Thanks to them, Joe, and all of the greatest generation.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

I know I should just "Get over it", but it still upsets me

whenever I see videos of Japanese tourists laughing and clicking away with their cameras on the Arizona Memorial. They are putting their thumb in the eye of the 1000+ American sailors who still lie emtombed directly below their feet. I would put the Arizona Memorial right up there with the Tomb of the Unknowns as being sites where quiet and respect are mandatory.

I've never seen that. I was there on a Sunday morning

several years ago and it was the most quiet, peaceful, somber, surreal, respectful gathering of people I have ever been around . . . . A VERY close 2nd is Clemson's 21 gun salute / Taps / Military service . . .

Joe - you are truly a TigerNet Treasure . . . please keep it coming.
