Passing Game Woes- Here's the problem

Nov 27, 2022, 10:22 PM

DJ has no pocket presence and can't extend the play... every qb in the ACC has the ability to
extend the play... UNC, Syracuse, Wake Forest, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Miami, Florida State..

Even by stepping up, side step slide buys the receivers time to break free.

Watch Deshawn or Trevor... Cade... remember what he did on the 2 point conversion?

The wide receiver room has slipped in recent years. Roster management for this position group has been particularly poor. We have Been unfortunate on injuries, but certain players have not developed at all. The wide receiver room at Clemson university should not be this bad. We almost did not offer Antonio Williams.…… Think about that. Dabo is correct, DJ has been hurt by the wide receiver room being mediocre. Thankfully…last year’s haul was a definite improvement from early returns….

Why haven't we been able to get Randall involved. As much as he was praised and Dabo said w h en he was recovering and got back, he'd be special. Well, he's been back awhile. Hard to see what's happening on TV and whether he's free or not.

Dabo tends to say that every player is special, amazing, etc.

I don’t really believe him anymore when he says it.

Re: Passing Game Woes- Guess here re: A.Randall's play

Just a guess here, but Adam Randall doesn't seem to make very sharp / quick cuts.

Maybe this will get better when his ACL repair has a few more months to keep getting stronger, and after A.Randall has more time to work on his cuts on a re-strengthened knee.

We can't cover fast receivers.

With one current exception (i.e., Antonio Williams), our WRs can't get open against fast DBs.

Thats BS. I've seen so many plays with WRs wide open that are irrelevant because their QBs has concrete feet looking at the wrong half of the field it isn't funny. I think its an absolute cop out to blame our issues on WR. They haven't helped, but they aren't the root problem. If you think it's more likely we missed on 5-6 4/5 star WRs than it is we missed on a 5 Star QB when he does the wrong things before a WR is even involved, I've got news for you.

Concrete feet, easily tackled, stares down WRs, inaccurate throws, only ever looks at one half of the field, no sense of urgency and no quick decision making.

But it's a guy who's supposed to run as fast as possible all game to get separation when he knows it never matters. Regardless of what we want to believe, I played college football (not at clemson). No kid is going 100% on every play, especially when the play isn't around them. DJ sucking is only decreasing confidence in the WRs believing that if they exert effort running routes it will pay off. No WR in the history of football can run full speed sprints all game.
