Difference in offensive styles.

This is the best educational video I could find to demonstrate the difference between the a Rob Spence style of offense and a traditional, line up and punch somebody in the mouth offense.

HaHa, just realized this was my 420 post. God I miss college.

So, we can conclude that Rob Spence's style is just offensive.

manipulation?-- they scored 19 points against BC, and 17

against VT--- those are the only 2 conf games they've played and you're enamored with his offense. I'm not saying the guy is going to fail, I'm just saying he's done nothing yet in this league to give any indication his team will be a contender.

Not sure I would call his offense smashmouth.

It is a great offense that allows teams with lesser talent to compete, involves a lot of misdirection and trap blocking and employs toss sweeps and multiple option looks. That is not what I'd classify as smashmouth. You say smashmouth and I think Nebraska in the 90s and before or Clemson in the 80s, not Paul Johnson. Not saying he is a bad coach, just that his offense is not smahsmouth.

Nice video. Not even **remotely** like Spence's offense.

Spence is conservative. Runs and high percentage passes. No sweeps or options. Not many risky plays.
Not much "showiness" in the offense.
Nothing like the capoeira guy.
Good video though.

You are right. But I think you missed my point.

I know that Spence's offense is conservative. The similarity that I saw in that video was the guys attempt at deception and confusion.
Spence has a limited number of plays that he runs. He runs them, however, from a multitude of disguising formations. The goal philosophy of his offense is to find the low-risk, high percentage plays that work, but confuse the defense with the different formations so that, hopefully, they do not know what's coming.
That fancy fighter is doing the same thing. There are only so many types of punches and kicks that a man can use. His flipping and jumping around is merely a disguise (formation) so that his opponent cannot tell what kind of punch (play) is coming.
Sadly, just like Spence, he "out-thought" himself and got knocked the #### out.
