Running back committee sounds like the logical choice for early season.

It does seem that something seems to be missing from the RB room, talent wise, discipline wise, or maybe just savvy wise. Hope we get that figured out and see someone step up and show out. We find out in about 2 months, I guess.

One more thing; as our OL improves, and it should improve exponentially and with more quality depth, so should our overall offensive performance. I'm expecting our OL to be right up there with the uga's, etc., very soon.

Pretty sure Randall was a 5 or 4 star. He's extremely athletic, years in the strength and conditioning program, and has tons of game time experience.

Nothing about his move should concern anyone.

Randall is not a RB. Davidson has THOUSANDS OF GAME REPS AT RB and was a much better ranked high schooler. There's a difference. There is so little value in teaching an underperforming player a new position in his last year.

Besides Davidson, Eziomume and injured Haynes, Sammy Brown is a much better proven RB than Randall.

Nothing except the fact that we are evidently so thin at RB

that we converted a WR to give us meaningful depth.

If Randall gets any meaningful playing time at RB, for any reason other than mass casualties among the real RBs on the roster, heads should roll.

This isn’t division III football.

Hoping so , but RB by committee isn't always bad - keep guys fresh and hungry to prove themselves. Didn't we have 3 backs at or near 1,000 yards each one year under Danny - can't remember all their names

Kenny Flowers and Terrence Flagler but can’t think of a third. Terry Allen after those two. If we had anyone like those 3 we would be in great shape. Davidson is the one I am holding out hope for.

I can't remember either, but in these days of instant transfer via the portal, and cash flowing like Mauna Loa, keeping that many is a bit of a problem.

With the instant player transfer it's a problem trying to keep together a 11-man roster for both sides of the ball. The transfer portal was, is the worst thing to ever happen in college sports, hands down!!!

The portal also allows teams to quickly fill a need.

I think so too. But even etn had a learning curve. I don't have any concerns about who's going to tote the ball. The biggest concern is who's going to keep cade from getting blown up on the blind side.

If cade gets blown up a couple times early, I could see him revert back to 2 yrs ago and take off out the pocket even when there's a clean one.

Really hoping Randall can help.

I sure get tired of hearing myself talk but here goes ( again )

The state of Texas is flush with excellent RBs

This is an empirical fact

Visit any one of the recruiting sites we've become familiar with and
see for yourself. Just plug in RB under ( position rankings ) and toggle
through the years

Just flood the state with offers

Get Riley to go out there and help. He's familiar with this area

For that matter have him talk to Lincoln

Dude is killing it at SoCal

This should not need be said but RB is as equally vital as WR

We've all seen what happens when WR recruiting goes to pot

The burning question is can CJ be nearly as good of a recruiter as he was an RB?

I think the jury is out on that. Loved, loved, loved CJ as an RB and kick/punt returner. He helped change the trajectory of Clemson football. Since he became the RB coach in February 2021 RB recruiting hasn't been great, but we'll see how the guys on the roster fare this season. CJ is credited with the following recruits per 247.
Class of...
2022: 3-star Keith Adams
2023: 3-star Jarvis Green, 3-star Jay Haynes
2024: None taken.
2025: 4-star Gideon Davidson, 4-star Marquise Henderson
2026: None. Getting late but TBD.
2027: None. But it's early. TBD.

Sorry. I missed Class of 2024 David Eziomume 4-star (listed as "ATH")

Questionable if dismissed 4-star RB Marquise Henderson was a recruiting win.

CJ was fantastic, as a player. There is no question. Considering his numbers, he should have been invited to NYC.
That being said, just because you are good at your position, it doesn't make you a good coach. I have repeatedly seen great employees get promoted to manager, only to see them crash and burn. The reverse is also true, as evidenced by Coach Swinney. CJ was phenomenal. He helped to build this program. He has a highlight reel that most would drool over. This is one of the issues with hiring a beloved player to fill a coaching position. If it doesn't pan out, you have to make a very difficult decision in regards to retention. I hope CJ makes it. In many programs, what he does may be enough. But Clemson is not anybody....
