Last year was Freshman Jake Fromm vs Freshman Tua Tagovailoa....so that's incorrect.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamelle_Holieway

Holieway was the only true freshman quarterback to lead his team to the national title until Tua Tagovailoa did so for Alabama in the 2018 College Football Playoff Championship Game, although Tagovailoa did not start.

Just realized that Tua was true freshman

Still pretty rare

He didn't start though so I wouldn't consider that as

a win by a true freshman even though he led the team back.

He played half the game, scored all the offensive points for Alabama (3 TD passes total), and threw the winning pass. I wouldn't consider Hurts the winner.

The record books show Hurts as the starter***

Aug 13, 2018, 4:21 PM

Which is correct...Hurts was the STARTER. Just like Cole was the starter the year DW4 almost beat FSU in Tallahassee as a freshman, lost in OT. Starter does not mean you played the whole game, or scored any of the points and should be credited with the final result of the game.

You guys do understand what a starter is, right? It's just the guy that takes the first snap of the game...no more than that. They throw Will Swinney out on the first snap vs Furman, bench him the rest of the game, he was still the starter

Tua played a half

Aug 13, 2018, 4:26 PM

he didn't take over in the 4th game of the year and lead the team from then on out like Jamelle Holiway.

Sure the kid showed out against a team that had no way to prepare for him, Hurts got the to the NC game twice.

Maybe Tua does it this year, maybe he's like that OSU QB that took over for 3 games a few years ago then fizzled the next season. Time will tell. Right now,his situation and Jamelle Holiway's situation are different.

May have won as a Frosh, but lost his last game as a Senior.

Yea, sadly for them Holiway had a serious knee injury and had actually been replaced by Charles Thompson (a future burgler) that season. JH was a super fast kid who ran the bone as well as anyone I ever saw.
