TAMU's Kyle Field capacity is now at 102,455. Smart?

They just added 20,000 seats which will make Texas A&M the largest stadium in the SEC (tops UT by 50 seats). I cant decide if this was a smart move or not.
I feel like this expansion was pushed forward on the heels of the success & excitement that Johnny Football & his Heisman brought to College Station. Sure the Heisman was great, but JF actually brought minimal success as far as wins on the field. And now, with no Johnny Football and a terrible defense, A&M is picked to finish last or next to last in the SEC West. Is Kevin Sumlin even a good head coach, or just a good Offensive Coordinator? Can they consistently win in the SEC, specifically in the West where they have to play Bama, Auburn, LSU etc? If they are 6-6 for the next 3 years, can they still fill that stadium?

and I have no doubt they will continue to fully support their team. That said, I have been to Kyle Field when Clemson played there a few years ago and I can tell you those upperdeck endzone seats suck.

As do the ones in the lower corner of endzone, about 15 yards past the back corner of the endzone.

With attendance falling throughout college football
Jun 2, 2015, 5:53 PM
|

as the TV money increases and the fan experience takes a back seat to TV, it's probably a bad idea in the long run. Student attendance is falling as well, so it may be that, with an aging population and the young replacements not as interested in attending games, demand will fall over time.
But, hey, who knows?

that are more luxurious than Duke and WF's stadium. Football is a religion in Texas.

Home town team will always get support, big stadiums because of big schools and past/future success which is easier to sustain in HD, friday night games and cheap tickets. Johnny Footballs HS is still winning state championships, his college is not.

Highschool football is huge in Texas but get real, there is no #### highschool stadium better than Duke or Wake. Both in capacity and quality.

I have also been to Wallace Wade. Absolutely there are several HS stadiums there that surpass the quality of Wallace Wade. Not the capacity, but definitely the quality.

I would say they have been mediocre the last 2 years with Sumlin. Hopefully, his highly rated recruiting classes will finally start to come through, or all of the swag in the world will not save him.

A&M just poached John Chavis from LSU to run the defense. The offense will take care of its self.

The way I see it is they're going full-bore for a power grab against UT. They're trying to get the recruits to consider A&M as the preeminent school in Texas. They've got the SEC, they've got the money, and they've got a far more passionate fanbase & deeper roots than the two current stalwarts of Texas: Baylor & TCU. Time will tell, but I think it's smart for them to swing for the fences here. I think Baylor & TCU can be good, but I imagine it's only a matter of time before UT throws a colossal amount of money at Art Briles, and TCU's not going to have co-OCs for long if their success continues.
A&M has been recruiting very well for the past couple of years, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them make some strides this season. The QB they've got coming in this year, Kyler Murray, has the potential to be a better Johnny Football, so that could be a huge step in the right direction for the Aggies.

Making. Also A&M should push hard to get the game with Texas back. They were always owned by UT, but now it sets up perfectly for them to reclaim the state

Supply and demand

The cost to get into the upper deck for the LSU game last year....around 150 bucks for a meaningless game for both teams. Three years ago, my friends paid 250 a piece for 2 upper deck tickets for the LSU game. How much to get into the stadium for the Bama game...well that's going to run you around 350. These are all scalped tickets, because everything is sold out. As a student, you are lucky to get seats right now, and the student population continues to grow (as do my property values...I'm up at least 20k on my 105,000K house right now). I don't think people realize just how huge Texas A&M is, and just how much money their alumni have.

they were sold out before and had a huge demand so time will tell if they made a mistake.
As for Sumlin.....IMO he just hired one of if not the best DC in the college game today. If Chavis can only accomplish 85% of what he has done in the past at aTm they'll be contending for SEC titles in short order.

A ton of grads every year. Mix that with a passionate fan base so I'd say it was needed. They have the money. Season tickets always sell out. Might as well strive to have the biggest and best.

They're a much larger school in a much larger state that's equally football-crazy to South Carolina. They may not sell out every game, but they'll do well.
This expansion is not due to Manziel, btw. It's been in the works since the minute they joined the $EC and they saw all those dollar signs floating in front of them. Same with Mizzou--they're upgrading the #### out of their stadium.

Clemson alumni now. Lot more family members will want to come see the game as they grow up and have families. I am not talking massive expansion but I could see us go up to around 90,000 at some point in the next decade because of the families who will grow and continue to support Clemson. Of course that is my opinion.
GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!
