Zoom out a bit and the concept that Walsh is talking about here applies to everything on the right. “Respectable conservatives” are always going for the milquetoast approach, and always losing ground. Meanwhile commies always push their narrative, never compromise, always circle the wagons rather than accuse other commies of “going too far.” This is why the GIP and conservative opposition is so impotent.
https://twitter.com/lisaelizabeth/status/1628179756205109251?s=46&t=TCn8ojuoCyZwmcXMmnp7eA
GIP was a typo for GOP, but since they are such gimps I’ll just leave it.

M.Walsh: Great - inspiring courage. Not so for reaching out

Terrific post and message of encouragement for those who are nervous about believing objective truths.
Matt Walsh’s approach should be adopted by GOP and all non-lefty politicians. Too much nuance leads to a loss of attention.
For the lefties who are too emotionally invested in their ‘team’s’ success, Walsh’s approach is as good as any. Grasp of the nuance aspects of truth is beyond their capability.
For the lefties who get obvious financial benefit from Democrats being in power, such as Federal Govt employees, University academics (who recognize that their financial well-being is closely aligned with Democratic Party spending policies), and physically capable people who are receiving some underserved benefit (commonly money) from Fed / State / local govt sources, these people are bought and paid for by the Democrats. They are not interested in truth. Matt Walsh’s approach is also needed for them.
On the other hand, for the thoughtful liberals who dare to actually read and have the curiosity to understand why other people may not agree with them, then the Matt Walsh approach isn’t optimal.
I believe that as the steady stream of information keeps arriving that proves the sensibility of non-lefty positions, some of the lefties are quietly taking heed. There should be no expectation that these thoughtful liberals will burst forth with “hallelujah I see the light” proclamations.
Rather, these now better informed liberals just start slinking away as the first step. They become more circumspect about swallowing new ‘information’ from their historically preferred sources as being unassailable truth.
We’ve seen fewer appearances from some of TNet’s liberals in recent months. These same people had vigorously attempted to validate their points of view by sharing links to articles and their interpretations of what they got from those articles. As their information and references are proven to being specious, then they cool it and don’t show up as much.
Good information is more convincing to the truly thoughtful person than preaching.
It takes time for the non-lefty messages to be correlated to real life events. Intellectual consideration is harder to practice than emotional outburst.
As summarized by Winston Churchill:
If you are 20 years old and not a liberal, then you don’t have a heart.
If you are 40 years old and not a conservative, then you don’t have a brain.

Great post RTD, as usual.
Just a couple of points I'd like to make:
"Too much nuance leads to a loss of attention."
Nail on the ****ing head. Here's the most important thing to realize: commies know this, they embrace it, and they use it. Rule 4: Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. "You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity."
Commies will always deflect and shift to tangential issues while never maintaining any consistent principle or foundation for any position they take. If you try to follow your normal rules of decency and intellectual honesty, you'll fall into their trap and become mired in an endless argument in which your opponent is completely disingenuous.
The trick is to maintain your honesty and maintain focus on the real issue at hand. It's difficult, and I have a hard time not defending against every lie that the commies throw at me. That's why I typically just make my point in a sentence or two, then leave.
-----
"On the other hand, for the thoughtful liberals who dare to actually read and have the curiosity to understand why other people may not agree with them, then the Matt Walsh approach isn’t optimal."
I am firmly convinced that these folks are few and far between. That's why I refer to leftists as commies. They are true believers. At this point, anyone who is open to rational thought is either apolitical or "red-pilled."
I do think you left off a group of people though - non-leftists who vote Democrat. I think these people watch the late show, talk to people at parties, listen to pop-culture above all else, and just vote the way they think they are "supposed" to. I don't think it has anything to do with any intellectual pursuit.
Finally, Churchill was a #### bitter commie, lol.

Hold on...
If the unvaccinated come to the hospital with COVID, they should be the lowest priority for a bed.
We had overflowing hospitals. We were using portable refrigerated trucks for morgues.
So if there was a queue of emergency room patients at crowded hospitals. Many fighting for spots with emergencies that didn't involve COVID at all. And some of the anti-vaxxers caught COVID and needed hospital access? They can get in the back of the line.
Why is this even controversial? If someone refused to vaxx and caught COVID (and there were many prominent examples), why should they go in ahead of anyone smart enough to at least try to not get COVID?
Isn't this simply thinning the herd? I mean, RIP Meatloaf, but you brought it on yourself with your idiocy. Go ahead and die and improve the gene pool.

Wake up.
Covid vax doesn’t stop the vaccinated from either contracting the vax nor from spreading the vax.
The only reason for sociopathic recommendations such as yours is to punish people who had not behaved according to Biden admin’s ‘obedience’ priorities.

Trump’s Covid press conferences as lies? Nonsense!
1
Feb 22, 2023, 2:56 PM
|
|
Wow … construing Trump’s press conference statements and commentaries during the fast moving real time events of the onset of the Covid as being “lies.” That is total B.S.
Lies are intentional statements, made by the perpetrator with complete understanding, that he knows to be false.
Biden and his professions about no financial wrongdoings with Ukraine. That is an example of a lie.
Trump and ‘we’ve closed the border and have kept out Covid’ … that is an erroneous statement. The use of ‘border’ when referencing P.R.China vis a vis the USA isn’t technically correct. Clearly the intent of this was to convey that we had shut down visitors from P.R.C. (the place from where the Covid outbreak had originated) from coming here and then spreading the virus. Trump was wrong in that infected visitors from PRC had already made it to the USA before the attempted quarantine had been executed. Furthermore, neither Trump nor ‘the popular face of viral expertise’ Fauci seemed to know that Covid had already been spread around the world, and that visitors to the USA from various non-PRC countries were also vectors of the virus. Virus going away in April … next July … next etc. … foolish optimism? Yes. A lie? Nope.
Trump and his failure to predict the effectiveness of his (as we know in hindsight, too little and too late) quarantine cannot be reasonably considered as a lie. An expression of hope and confidence about something that doesn’t come true isn’t a lie.
Xxxxxx
The assortment of Trump’s 2020 Covid press conference clips, all taken during that frenetic year, only illustrates the rapidly moving environment and Trump’s efforts to encourage the American public.
Did Trump know that the USA would survive the Covid onslaught? No. Was his encouragement a lie? No.
Did Churchill know that the UK would survive the Nazi threat when he gave his ‘we will never surrender’ speech? No. Was his encouragement a lie? No.
Does Zelenskyy know that Russia will just go away & leave Ukraine intact? No. Is his encouragement a lie? No.
Xxxxxx.
Set aside the biases and think about this a little.

And I said they were both lying. And they did/were. Nothing surprising here, except maybe to those who got their information from Trump and/or Fauci and/or the CDC. It took 2 years for the WHO to admit covid was airborne. The CDC later followed suit.
It is what it is. Biden is no better, other than he has a smarter approach, which is the same used in many places. Just don't talk about it. Say it's over. Stop testing. Ignore the 3-4K people who die from it every week, still.
Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of ignoring them.

Thanks for the additional clarifications (not that you owed this to anyone).
Indeed, people who carelessly take the word of all ‘authorities’ for granted (especially those who can’t be troubled by inconviences to their lives or by challenges to their beliefs) do so at their own peril.
Still Lots of moving parts on the Covid matter.

in the past year or two, your conservative tenets seem to be centered around far more populist ideals du jour.
Your grasp on conservatism seems to have loosened mightily with your ability to afford the policies of increased social liberalism. Not saying I don't understand---it was probably a tough row to hoe, showing up to ABA conventions and trying to make conversation at the cocktail hour around the tenets of Ron Paul. Undoubtedly, turning into Susan Collins, Esq was probably better for personal and professional happiness.
Not an insult or attack, just an observation. Being around here with the long-timers, it's a bit fascinating to see the way positions morph....I'm certainly guilty of it too.

"the election" * me: Trump lost * Trump "conservatives": Trump won
"Jan 6th" * me: it was a violent attack on the Capitol * Trump "conservatives": it was a tourist event
"COVID" * me: covid is a deadly virus; n95/KN95 masks mitigate the spread; vaccines reduced hospitalization * Trump "conservatives": COVID is a worldwide conspiracy amongst all of the world governments, religions, and medical professionals, including nearly all MDs world wide, democracies, communists, dictators, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists .... but a handful of ignorant American rednecks got it all figured out and they're not letting Bill Gates in their blood stream
Now, we all know the trumpies have long espoused so-called "alternate facts" but the above is objective by any stretch.
Furthermore, my conservatism is rooted in the conservatism espoused by the likes of Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan etc... there is exactly zero chance that they would side with the Trumpy MAGA crowd were they alive today. Indeed, they would condemn all of the nonsense.

CA, you are something of a mystery to me.
Your posts read like that which come either from a very young person -or- a very old person.
Sprinkles of data points followed explanations that lack any meaningful context.
This tactic gives you plenty of simplistic straw man arguments for proving that CA good, dissenters bad.
The mindless, angry taunts are like those that adults recognize as coming from kids -or- from demented seniors.
Will the true ConservativeAlex please stand up?

Looking for political posts that make sense
Feb 22, 2023, 3:08 PM

Your posts don’t make any sense.
Each point being limited to what seems to be a ‘trigger’ word or two, supported by a clipped and meaningless ‘explanation.’
Most really young people don’t realize that they are ignorant. They are too emotional, focused upon play and fantasy, and of short attention span to commit to learning and understanding details.
Many really old people suffer from a big decline in their mental ability. They become more emotional and dependent upon short term gratification to pay attention to and understand details.
I’m guessing that you are either very young or very very old. Otherwise, your posts would make some sense.

So, go more radical, angry, and hostile, and further alienate middle America?
The GOP is rapidly losing ground with the independent voting base of America, who decides all elections, because they continue to embrace this strategy and the crazies in the party.
The Dems don't do themselves any favors with the extreme woke wing of the party, either, but at the moment, that looks a lot less scary to independents than the MTG side of the GOP.

If you are being ideologically pure on the allowable books topic, then … just for laughs … what should the govt’s position be for banning KKK propaganda books from school libraries?
Based on the constant refrain from lefties about the racist right wing Christian dominated communities and their influence upon the schools in their communities, then the racist right wing Christian communities should be given free reign, along with Dept. of Education grants like those provided to schools with the woke agenda, to fill up their libraries with KKK stuff.
I’ve given you the perfect ‘I will support the school’s wishes to support KKK propaganda’ pretext. No way that any school will be sneaking KKK propaganda books into their libraries without the school board’s and PTA’s consent. And neither will any school board or PTA support KKK propaganda in the school.
Therefore, there is no practical risk that your ideological ‘all books must be allowed’ purity will lead to the proliferation of KKK garbage in the schools.
What’s your position on KKK propaganda in schools?

Attempting to compare a absurdly hyperbolic example of literature that actually calls for murder and extermination of masses of people to valid literary works that YOU (yes, you specifically) want banned because you don't like that they paint minorities and LGBT people in a positive light isn't worth a debate.
It's as stupid as those who say, "Oh, does this mean you want to own a tank?!? Should we make tanks legal!?!?!" when one argues for 2nd Amendment rights.
You want books banned because their subject matter makes you uncomfortable due to political and social ideology because you don't want a free society. THAT's your sole motive. That's it. That's completely different than some bigot who wants to fill a school with homicidal ideas against people of one race. Of course, you know that; you're just taking a giant dump on the topic and hoping the real discussion gets lost in your turds.
BTW, what's your favorite KKK book?

You missed the layup.
Supporting authoritarian judgement when that authority is you; rejecting authoritarian judgement when you don’t like authority.
Exhibit A why principled people now refer to many liberals as lefties (instead of as liberals).
Clever with language and arguments, but devoid of true principles.

I'd love to see you find a post of mine where I support authoritarianism. In fact, anti-authoritarianism is pretty much my whole #### ideology.

Being obtuse is no excuse for your authoritarian predilection. Everything you post in this thread reeks of hypocrisy.
From this very thread, you proposed book banning for what YOU, as an authoritarian, would not allow KKK books into a school library.
You justify this by a virtue signaling rant that the KKK is abhorrent.
Golf clap. Yes, the KKK is abhorrent, including to the view of Mr. Cat.
Then you morph to your other personality when virtue signaling again by ranting against authoritarian removal of pornography books from K-3 school libraries.
Booo to Mr. Cat. Pornography in school libraries is abhorrent … but not in your authoritarian view.

High schoolers can decide for themselves, but that shouldn't allow for unrelated topics to be inserted into a proper curriculum.
This is my first post related to this. Maybe NOW I'm part of "ya'll".
But you guys oppose books in school libraries at all. It is a lie to suggest you only object to books that are part of the assigned curriculum.

is, to a large extent, a rational reaction to the actual crazy being propagated by the left and, increasingly, 'moderates.'
Of course, the gender madness is a perfect example.
"Gender madness" is just this year's dumb-sh!t right-wing bugaboo. Most liberals rarely bring it up, while your hair is on fire about it.
Keep ranting about something few are worked about it and you'll alienate all but the crazies.
(In the meantime, Virginia Republicans want to track menstrual cycles, but you are probably good with that.) https://www.stltoday.com/opinion/editorial/editorial-virginia-menstrual-tracking-bill-underscores-bizarre-extremes-in-abortion-debate/article_6e8c8fbe-8765-5eb3-bd32-3eb92eac92ec.html

If you think wanting secure borders, believing in two genders, not thinking people who dont get COVID vaccines should be removed from society, not being a fan of giving limitless resources with zero accountability to corrupt countries, or being skeptical that the oceans are about to rise up and swallow Florida, makes you radical angry or hostile then you certainly arent an independent voter.

THAT doesn't make you radical or hostile. What makes one radical and hostile is the attitude that "anyone who disagrees with me is evil" and continuing to embrace nutjobs like MTG (or even just defend her) or pushing to stamp out ANY ideology that one doesn't like. And then coupling it with a "we're at war, we have to fight, we're battling evil, shove it down people's throats, you're either with us or against us" attitude is turning off middle America.
I don't know how many elections nutjobs have to lose to the segment of America that actually decides elections before they realize, oh, hey, maybe we need to appeal to middle of the road folk.

you have a ton of people who just don't care to pay attention. They only see what is in front of them in real life, they don't obsess over politics or philosophy or the news or any of it. Honestly, they are happier people, lol.
But those people aren't looking for someone who stands up and says "hi, please clap, I'm here to be reasonable, and find common ground."
They want someone who is going to cut through all of the political BS and actually deliver results. They view the government as generally a hassle and they view politicians as generally dishonest.
This is somewhat unfortunate because in their ignorance they will fall into the hands of commies from time to time, when they are charismatic and make promises that sound good to the average Joe. But they will vote for Republicans if Republicans come along that actually fight back and talk about things that make sense to the average working person (bringing back jobs, closing the border, staying out of wars, etc.)
The myth that if Republicans can just be a little bit more like commies and compromise with the commies then they will get more of "the middle" is just that: a myth - constructed to keep the uniparty in power and keep the cash flowing to politically connected interests (and politicians.)

Nailed it re: Truly good, moral people who either don’t have time or choose not to take the time to follow and dissect political news.
Indeed, those such people in my social circle will only listen to ‘quick hitter’ types of info.
The quick euphemism for perpetrators of child pornography is ‘educators’ prerogative to teach children according to their expertise.’
Quick euphemism for supporters of defund the police movement is ‘brave citizens trying to rid the black communities of white violence.’
Quick euphemism for the rapid and troublesome rate of inflation is ‘the economy had overheated and thankfully it’s cooling off.’
Quick explanation of Biden’s brags re: Nordstream won’t happen / Joe + Hunter corrupt UKR dealings are ‘that’s just misinformation.’
Xxxxxxxx
The non-lefties need clear and concise explanations to the ‘politically naive / politically unaware’ good people to orient them towards the truth that they need to know for their own good.
Xxxxxxxx
Thnx again, CTom.

Think anything that doesn't subscribe to your crazy world view is "left". There are millions upon millions of Americans who are disgusted with the Dems and the left, but they're put off by y'all's insane vision of America. But yeah, keep pushing the aggression tactic. It's working so well.

norm today is actually solidly left. "The left" are downright extremists.
I fully admit that I'm an extremist. Although I'm extremely against the initiation of violence (coercion, theft, murder, fraud, etc) so I don't really fit on the traditional left/right scale.
But the controlled opposition Republicans are not "right" or even "moderate right". They are left of center. They may pretend from time to time that they are conservative, when talking about issues that they never change like Abortion, gay marriage, etc. But when the rubber meets the road, they always side with the commies. (war spending, welfare spending, all spending)
