I will never forget sitting in the cold rain Wake up 17-3,last play of the 3rd if the decs hit that fg its over. Then MR Adams comes across that line like a bull and next thing you know its 17-10 with a full quarter to play. Now that was a game changer the whole 4th the Tigers played like a new team and could have won the game by 20.Thanks for the memory GA and RIP.

respected, and I know how people on here get so mad (myself included) when ESPN mispronounces or misspells names of our players.
Your memory of Gaines is one of my faves too.

I had to miss the game to attend my step daughter's wedding on Lake Wylie in the cold rain. Fortunately my memories of Gaines' play lasted longer than the marriage.

I was there too. That was the biggest momentum shift

caused by a single play I have ever seen. I think pretty much everyone thought they were going to hit that field goal and it was going to be over. Up to that point, Clemson had moved the ball well, but shot themselves in the foot time and time again. After Gaines' return I got the feeling that everyone in the stadium, Tigers and Deacs alike, knew that Clemson was going to win.

at bar I had just stepped into who had won game...and he looked at me meanly and said "Y'all" did but you shouldn't have and were very lucky. I said I was sorry he was so upset...and then sat down with my Lady friend and giggled in my beer.

...cheering and chanting after the game was over. Thise Wake fans were hating us that day! It was a cold, misty rain...nasty, but after that 4th quarter, none of the Clemson fans cared. That game was one I will NEVER forget!

I live in greenwood, sc and use to work at the hibbett sports there. My favorite memory of gaines was when he came in there looking for shoes and i got to help pick out the ones he wanted. He was a class act and very humble. I told him how big a Clemson fan i am and he just smiled and said awsome. Really sad to know he isnt with us anymore. RIP Gaines.

About five rows off the field, behind Tigers bench, and I remember Gaines coming off the field at some point in the game, on the sidelines just screaming at Phillip Merling,"75 can't block me! He can't block me!" Twas beautiful. R.I.P. Gaines.
