Our students,,,and me---I too was a student...have been

spoiled with cheap athletic tickets....Look at what the other schools charge around the state. ESPN does not subsidize athletics at the smaller schools...Pretty stunning

How much is tuition at those other schools

Apr 21, 2016, 11:01 AM

I bet all are significantly cheaper. Out of pocket costs for Clemson students are almost certainly the highest of any public school in the state.

What does tuition costs have to do with football?

Apr 21, 2016, 11:44 AM

Not seeing the connection.

Has to do with student expenses

Apr 21, 2016, 12:03 PM

students at the other school listed are ostensibly better able to afford activity fees because they're paying less for tuition.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Activity fee at Clemson isn't too bad at all.

Apr 21, 2016, 12:21 PM

It is also not mandatory. You can wave it and just not go to fike or participate in intramural sports. You will still be able to go to sporting contests for free.

One interesting aspect:

Apr 21, 2016, 1:36 PM

Between making it a school fee or making it a separate athletic charge is, if it is a student fee (whether mandatory or optional) it could then be included in the "cost of attendance" number that the school puts out meaning that students could get that included in their student loans.

Whereas if this were just a separate expense altogether it wouldn't be covered, and therefore, couldn't be added to any student loan.

Making it a university fee would seem to be more desirable in this respect because then every student would be able to attend, but would just have to repay later.

I think this is right but its been awhile since I was applying to college. Not really posting positive/negative about the fee, just curious about others' thoughts on this?

Re: Think again...

Like in my post above, I think the schools do this to help students out. Its not a "charge" to the students, because the students don't then receive the books from the school from that flat fee or anything, but having an inflated number means that students can get up to that amount covered when they apply for student loans. This enables them to get a little more money in their pockets if they are able to still purchase their books and spend under that amount.

why think again? You posted private schools.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You seriously gonna compare Clemson

Apr 21, 2016, 12:48 PM

with the others?

Clemson's ### near private now anyway...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You glossed over the word "public"

Apr 21, 2016, 12:04 PM [ in reply to Think again... ]

private schools are a whole different animal.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Guess you got the confuse.

Apr 21, 2016, 12:21 PM [ in reply to Think again... ]

The article linked above only dealt with fees that are charged to support the athletic department. Clemson charges no such fee to support athletic department. THINK AGAIN, again.
