One big concern about Wilkins comment.

We are open to any conference contacting us. As we all know that can't happen. He knowsd that. What I expected to hear is the BOT has given permission for the pres and ad to contact other leagues. By saying we are open for others to contact us, might scare any league away. Tehy will be afraid that if we go there it will be seen as them contacting us and lawsuit for them. Not sure why Wiolkins put it that way. Even if it was legalese, he cuold have said that we may look to other viable conferences.

put it on the Big12 to make the first move when you know they can't. I hope the BOT is not trying to play the fanbase and say things they think will make it look like they are open, and really have no intentions of being serious about it. That would be a big mistake and backfire greatly.

The Big 12 can and will make the first move IF they decide

it's in their best interest. Wilkins clearly left the door open and that was his message. Any more detailed interpretation than that is FURTHER unwarranted speculation.

A few things to keep in mind;
May 25, 2012, 6:49 AM
|
|
1 - Clemson and FSU are unhappy and want out.
2 - I think it is reasonable to infer that Wilkins statements on Thursday support that.
3 - Wilkins said Clemson would entertain other offes.
4 - The Big XII and Clemson have not had formal talks. Clemson has not applied to the Big 12 and the Big 12 has not extended an invitation to Clemson.
5 - The Big 12 annual meeting begins May 30th and expansion will be a topic of discussion.
6 - Before invitations can be formally extended both Clemson and FSU must apply to the Big 12 for membership.
7 - Neither has done so yet, but after yesterdays meeting, I still think it happens since TDP likely now has the BOT's authorization to begin formal discussions with the Big XII

Did Wilkins say that Clemson is NOT going to the Big 12?

I didn't think so.
That's EXACTLY what he would have said if we were not going, and were truly happy and committed to the ACC. Rather than slam the door shut, which he could have done, he opened it, and with a wink and a finger to his lips, invited us all in.

Does anybody really think that they JUST put that meeting

together a day or so before they met? They just used all of the rumors as a cover. I'm sure they gave the authority needed to do what needs to be done.

to put together all the rumors... all they needed to do that was put tigernet up on the projector and scroll through the message boards for a little bit. all of our poster's "sources" did the work for the BOT on this one lol.

Everything has been decided one way or the other already. I don't have insider knowledge to this, but have been involved in other back room type situations before.
1. Either this is a ploy to get something from the acc. 2. Or, the big12 deal is worked out/or another conf switch
It's all a game - yesterday's meeting saved one purpose in that it legitimized all of the talk. It legitimized that we're unhappy with the acc currently and that we're not just going to take it anymore. Whether that means some concessions are made for us to stay or we go, I don't know. But we're not going to be passive anymore and yesterday was the announcement of that.
