upcoming Duke game with their expert analysis. Annnd, at the risk of going Ramona, I am going to heretofore give mine. I have not watched one second of Duke football in two years. I have no idea what defense they run or how many All ACC players they have. But....I can read. Walt and Qwalk say we wil hold Cade back and not let him lose the game. They say we will not rush him into throwing it all over the field and will try to shorten the game. Well, I am hoping they are dead wrong. First off, Cade has gotten more 1st team reps, against maybe the best secondary in the ACC, between spring ball and fall ball...THAN HE DID ALL OF LAST YEAR. 2nd, Duke's DB's are 5'8",5'10",5'10",and 6'1". We have a 6'2",6'4",and a 6'6" receiver .......If we cannot throw the ball on DUKE, first game or NOT, who can we throw it on? I say the heck with this bring him along slowly crap like we did with Trevor....I say...LET'S GO!

Correct!! Elliott & Streeter were so obsessed with calling the "perfect" play that it froze the entire team and slowed everything to a crawl. This year, you will see whatever play is called run "perfectly" which frees up the team to play loose and fast. Totally different concept and a more intelligent way to play the game.

I think we run less plays and run them correctly. We don't need to dazzle Duke with an array of different plays, but rather the ones we run, run with precision. They won't all look the same, because we will run them from different formations and motion. It is Riley's philosophy ...... and I think a good one.

This whole bringing along slowly mess is exactly how we lost our confidence. If you can’t let a gunslinger do his thing he’s never going to live up to his potential because he will start to second guess himself. Don’t know when this philosophy started but it needs to go away. Let the playmakers you trusted enough to bring in make plays.

Spud they are Dook and I fully expect to win. However, they are well coached. At this point, Elk is head and shoulders above Brown as a coach.
The QB position is a great equalizer in college football. Our defense needs to lay the smack down. I expect the difference to be their inability to block our guys up front.

I agree, even if he initially stumbles and throws a couple of picks, we have the D to keep us in the game. These first 3 games should let him loose to get him ready for what is coming down the road.

I will say this...i get your point of view but i counter with two theories: 1) if we just run the ball and limit the passing then we onow we are dominate and are not wanting to share more than we have to before FSU!
2) we arent as good at throwling it or we dont trust Cade fully to not tuen it over therefore it is a necessity!!!
I for one am hoping for #1...but after the Dj thing you just never know...what i will say is that if we cant line up amd run the ball against Duke sucessfully and consistently with maybe our best ol in the past 10 years and our best rbs since spiller/davis...and we have to pass to win...well then...that will be the worst sign we can get!!!

You know if the boys are perfectly executing a play he won't call it often. Spud, my friend, you know Dabo is going to ask the players to do what they struggle to do and play backups at the drop of a hat.
Dabo is playing to put the last couple-three games away early not the first 8 or 9. You know he loves to manufacture 'adversity,' to harden those guy and get them ready to win the game in one drive or take the ball back in one series.
We're gonna put a good ole country askwhuppin' on Duke but we not going to run up the score just so we can be in the playoff talk this time of the year.
I mean, he's only been doing that crap to us for a decade now. Looks like everyone could see it coming by now.

I still say Duke has pretty good talent. I consider this similar to Wake in the past when they have been pretty good. Remember the Tigers had to beat Wake in a few OTs last season. Plus, this is the first game of the season. Coach Elko for Duke said in their Clemson preview presser said only missing one key player their 3rd or 4th receiver will be the only player banged up and won't play and they knew that before fall camp started. Also, have had a key offensive lineman who has been banged up expecting to play now. Everyone else is a go. Mu point is they will be at full strength early since depth from injuries is a concern for teams with less of it like Duke and Wake. Elko, also said their defensive depth is about as good this season as when he was at places like Notre Dame and Texas A&M. Duke's offensive line is rated as top 20 in most preseason rating boards just like Clemson including Barton who is rated as an preseason all-American at tackle. Add a top 4 QB in the ACC who could be a 1st round NFL draft pick, a stable of three decently rated running backs all back, two really good athletic receivers, and on defense a stable of good defense lineman and a couple of good DBs. the ACC rated their top 25 players for the season and Duke had about 6 players on that list.
My main point Clemson as more depth and talent but for those thinking this will be a cake walk will probably be mistaken unless Clemson is that much of a well oiled offensive machine this early under Riley already. The Tigers will probably pull away in the 3rd Qtr and win by by a few scores, but won't be surprised if they have to win a little later. see links:

After reading your post, I think I underestimated the margin of victory.

Note: I don't think their analysis is correct either. I think Riley and Swinney will run the offense they want to run and will not scale it back at all. They need the offense, everyone, to get experience under live fire running the offense. They need to give Klubnick experience making the right reads (pre and post snap) running the offense. They need as many plays as possible on video to teach Cade (and everyone else) the good things he did and the mistakes he made.
They don't need 40 plays of Cade handing the ball off to Shipley and Mafah and have them running up the gut so they can analyze how well the exchange was made.

Hope the time for top secret plays held for 2-3 big games are over. TCU score big every game but UGA (when they were gassed and overmatched after MICH game.) Looking and hoping for Riley and Dabo to put their foot on the gas and keep it there with conference realignments potentially still in play.
