Background. I love looking at the coaching carousel. I found this board years ago when I was watching the carousel when Clemson hired Tommy Bowden. So, some people are "recruiting nerds." I'm a "carousel kook."
Virtually every website or youtube video I've watched mentions Norvell as a possibility. I initially dismissed it because I don't think aTm will hire another FSU coach after the debacle they just had with Jimbo.
But, what if the aTm administration is willing to ignore that? Would Norvell be a serious candidate?
Here are reasons he might be:
1. His resume is credible. He was successful at Memphis. He took over a hot garbage mess and, in spite of starting in the COVID year, he has done an amazing turnaround in 4 years.
2. He's from Texas.
3. Most importantly, FSU is in the ACC.
3a. FSU has openly said that they cannot compete financially with B1G or SEC. As long as they are in ACC they will be falling further and further behind SEC financially.
3b. If FSU has some assurance they are leaving the ACC and heading to the big 2 in the next couple of years, he might stay. But, if there is no assurance that FSU is leaving, would Norvell be looking to jump ship while he is a hot name?
3c. FSU better figure out a way to get out of the ACC, quickly - very quickly.
3d. If FSU already has an agreement to switch conferences but just can't announce it until the end of the season, then Norvell might not be a serious candidate. But, ....
Bottom line: Get out of the ACC! If Norvell doesn't go to aTm, he's gonna go somewhere in a couple of years. Get out. Get out, NOW!

I want to think Dabo doesn't conduct his life, family and relationship with God relative to income so that's why I believe it.
If you got a guy who has to have the biggest paycheck then wave goodbye and wish him well. FSU might cry bloody murder but if it was know by FSU's boosters that a savior type like Norvell was wanting a few more million/yr they'd sign the check.
If he's leaving it would be for growth and not because FSU isn't a wonderful place to work.

Norvell is a good coach but not a proven recruiter yet. The 20 players FSU let me say financially persuaded to come over the last two years from the portal has got them where they are. If we kick a 29 yard field goal our hot mess team would have still beaten them. They have not necessarily been a dominant team this year with all of that. They will fall off next year unless they bring in 10 more transfers. Not trying to be ugly but I think there are better coaches FSU could get. Not a big loss if he goes but they will not offer an unproven commodity at this time.

I agree. I think they are a one hit wonder and not even that good this year. They will get smoked if they make the playoff.

He gone. Saban has maybe one year left and OU and Texas aren’t much better than an Ole Miss. Kelly isn’t a great game day coach and is posing as an SEC coach. With the expanded playoff an SEC West team with 3 losses will get in every year. He can easily build them into a quick powerhouse. They just have to leave Adidas as their uniform provider to get some sweeter threads.

I think what you said about the ACC has some validity (& BTW applies to Clemson as well), but I think Norvell is smart enough (& well paid enough) to wait a year or two and find a better outlet than the viper's nest that is A & M

Has a easier path to CFP at FSU, & doesn't have to deal with all the issues that come w/ boosters w/ that much money (i.e. -meddling in his affairs).
However, given the turnaround he's put together, there is something to the concept of "leaving while you're still hot". & he'd definitely would be hot after 2 consecutive 10+ win seasons.
