- a RB playing lights out, like he is worried about losing touches
- the same SH1P we’ve been seeing this season (a not as potent version of his previous seasons)

He will also benefit from the new/old zone blocking scheme. He was the only real bright spot for our team last year on offense, except for Williams and Turner.

plays. Run some veer stuff, seriously. Let the defense try to figure who’s getting the ball.
But nonetheless, Ship will start and he will be highly motivated. I expect a big game from him.
He’s earned over time and he’s been the biggest spark on the team for the last couple seasons.

What matters more is production from each while giving 100%. Past two seasons Ship seemed to have the edge. This season Mafah’s ceiling is higher.

We need to keep running the hot hand. I don't even know exactly how to do that, but I hate the rotating series thing. No rhythm is esatblished.
Mafah, obviously, should be the starter. Work Shipley in on 3rd downs with Mafah getting most of the workload to wear defenders down. But Mafah should not come out unless he is dog tired or starts making mistakes.
I don't think rotating to keep them "fresh" is the best idea. Both Shipley and Mafah seem to get better when they get lathered up.

I don’t think he hasn’t been motivated.
If anything he may be trying too hard to force things, which has been clouding his judgement and can explain the running straight into lineman and the slipping which frustrates him.

I doubt losing touches is on Ship's or Mafah's radar. Somehow Tnetters think they represent one player vs another contrary to them being teammates. These discussions are foolish nonsense.
What we should be talking about is the unity this team has after losing 4 games, getting a prime spot on Saturday, first game of the day, and laying the pipe to the #12 ranked ND team which is filled with talent and determination.

I would agree with you, but it’s now a job. I’m not saying they aren’t good teammates, but both want to play in the NFL, both want NIL deals for them and their families to benefit, every decent person wants their team to succeed but there are probably less than 0.1% of athletes that would not feel pressure while watching a teammate out perform them in their own position.

I don’t know if you are a 1.5 er or not but I will say why even ask a question about the portal that questions Shipley’s character and attitude!
He has had a stellar career at Clemson!
He has done multiple times what Mafah did Saturday , put the team on his back and won the game!
He has never done anything that would lead anybody to believe He is not all in for Clemson! If He plays in college next year it will be at Clemson and if not He will play in the NFL…. Good grief you people are so negative!

We have a great problem - two great running backs. I would play one until he fumbles, then switch to the other guy until he fumbles. Conceivably, both will get playing time and a rest too.

Not sure why but Mafah seems to have taken the lead. History proves there's room for both. Sh1p was complaining about touches earlier in the season when Mafah was finding the endzone easier. OL...scheme...oppponent etc it looks like Mafah is more effective. Maybe use Mafah to gas their D early and see if Sh1p can put them away late. Whoever is scoring should be playing.

I don’t know if it’s a combination of SH1P having a much quicker first step, and not allowing the holes to develope/Mafah being a little slower and the timing being better for him (as far as play development goes); or Mafah has better vision/anticipation than SH1P.
I love Shipley. I like tough players, especially this day and age. It is weird though that the longest 3 TD runs over the past 2 seasons belong to the slower, power back.

I would have them both START the game. Ship in the slot. Mafah RB. Later Ship can move to the RB now and then. Plus Ship can run the end around thing or whatever it's called today.

My guess is Ship will look much better if the Oline continues the simplified blocking scheme. I am still on the fence about his S&C and chemistry with the rest of the offensive unit this year.

I could be wrong (it has happened before haha) but I think Shipley has all the tools you would want in a great RB except one.
It is a glaring issue with him and it’s his field vision/lane anticipation. He has had so many times where if he would have timed his run better, or cut a different direction that he could have gone basically untouched for a big gain and he ends up running directly into tackles. I’m not a Shipley basher by any means; he’s got good power, great acceleration, and a ton of grit. I just wish he would speed up when he stutter steps, slow down instead of running directly into a lineman’s a$$crack, and make a decisive cut when he gets past the DL instead of running in a direct line at a defender.

he will still be a major part of our run game. I don't see any reason for Shipley to consider transferring unless there's something we don't know about. Mafah earned, and I imagine will get more carries, but not that much is going to change.
