favorite bar back in the day=Betty's Lounge

Lived in Clemson throughout most of the '80s in different capacities (student, grad student, instructor) and did most of my drinking and pool playing at Betty's out on 123 on the way to Seneca. Knew I was spending too much time there when some of the staff and other patrons threw me a surprise birthday party one year. Interesting place. . .and great times.

I spent a few nights there in the late 80's as well. A rougher looking crowd but always welcoming. I believe Betty had a shotgun hanging up in full view behind the bar.

Favorite bar back in the day=Lester's Tiger Den

No question for me. Lester's was pretty much a dump, but back in the 70s if you wanted to drink beer, play pinball or play one of those old bowling machines, it was great. Dark as a tomb in there, and after spending a few hours in the afternoon drinking (I know, I should have been in class) you'd step out in the blinding sun. Very fond -- if hazy -- memories of Lester's.
My avatar is a "business card" they used to handout. They tore it down about 1984, I think because the property was pretty valuable by that time and the building was in bad shape.
I also remember the Library Club, the Bookstore, and the Study Hall. You could write checks at all of these places and your parents would think you were actually spending on money on things related to school.

I was at Clemson in the early 80's. Loved going to Betty's and then to Sunny's across the street for some food. There was a sign hanging on the wall next to the door or on the back of the door at Betty's that had a long list of things that were not allowed. Like knives, guns, fighting, cursing, etc. I thought it was amusing because I figure that place would be chock-full of those items and activities.

Penny Annie's was the place, it just didn't last very long.

I'm astonished that someone remembers Renee Pierre foosball tables, they were great! Then go to Lamar's to dance.

I played goalie. We usually held a table for most of the night and I seldom had to buy a beer.
It's a wonder I got an education.

We gave a local a ride back home one night from Betty's. He thanked us by giving us a quart of moonshine from his still in the woods right by his house. Think Betty's had a general rule of locals using the front pool table and students on the back table. A late night at Betty's usually ended up with a meal at Sonny's across the street.
