Every SC bbq list is automatically considered null and void as soon as Henry’s is mentioned.

the founder of Maurice's - Maurice Bessinger? Seems to me that would be the same sauce or danged close to it...
I gotta admit - I'm a mustard based BBQ lover because both my parents are from the Newberry/Prosperity area. I grew up eating mustard based BBQ on everything from chicken, pork to beef hash. So my natural inclination is towards the mustard BBQ.
Now I live in Shelby NC which is home to Bridges BBQ (both Red's and Alston's) and they are decidedly NOT mustard but a vinegar/tomato/hot sauce mix. I like the Bridges stuff but given a choice will choose the mustard. However, that doesn't keep me from enjoying many different kinds of BBQ - from the Lexington NC breed to the mid-west sweet to the SC gold mustard.

But I can admit there is better in Greenville. Would not include Henry’s in that list though. It’s always been 6.5/10 when I go there. Most of Henry’s sides are frozen ARAmark fare.

quite good. Definitely not what SC is famous for, but you also can't expect some writer who lives in Austin, TX to completely understand the culture of our state and what BBQ actually means here (even though a very similar passion to Texas) so I'm willing to give the article a pass. Personally, I've come to appreciate Texas-style brisket and Carolina-style pulled pork equally so it makes issuing the pass an easy thing to do.

Swig and Swine isn't worthy to sniff Rodney Scott's pig's anus

We need to dispel the myth that this place is one of the best. It's the closest BBQ joint to where I live. It's okay. Just that. I'd rather drive downtown to Scott's. Swig's sides are terrible. The pulled pork is a bit mushy. The wings are good but are just trying to copy Home Team's. The ribs aren't memorable.
Any list that doesn't have Rodney Scott in the top 3 should be summarily dismissed.

Not a bad list, not great. Would add Brown’s in Kingstree. For my money, it goes something like this-
Best brisket- Lewis, and it’s not even close.
Best ribs- Rodney Scott’s, these things are meat heaven
Pulled- I’m going to say Brown’s or Sweatman’s
Hash- I’m going to go with Shealy’s

I didn’t. Was it the same people? Browns in Kingstree is a little concrete block shed, it doesn’t look like the kind of joint that afford Mt P rent

then they moved down to the old KFC building at the corner of 17 N and 41.
It was not great in either spot.
After decades of being away from Kingstree, I often wondered if Brown's BBQ was actually that good, or if you really HAD to go to Kingstree, your expectations dropped after getting there...and you were just really hungry.

I will eat either sauce. I make my own hash with pork butt only. I will have Shealy's whole smoked turkey on Thanksgiving. Smoked with gas.

personally. Not a huge fan of anything Bessinger, and it's only gotten worse since they got less racist. Glad to see a list that does not try to shoehorn Hudson's as great BBQ. It's good, but not at all great and very inconsistent.

me leather tongue drunk on Gamechangers, and teh Sullivan's Island location. The Mac and Cheese tastes like Stouffers without the good burnt corner, and I have to drown the chopped pork in sauce to make it swallowable to where my GERD doesn't act up.
Lewis' BBQ is 5x the brisket without even trying hard.

Very few places I've tried in the Carolinas even come close, including many of the Mexican restaurants around here. That said, HT's version doesn't come close to the one I got from the street vendor in San Antonio last month. When I run across a really good one, I have to take note. Not everybody loves a Michelada, so I guess not that many people bother to put their expertise into crafting a great one. Kudos to HT for the one they turn out though, it's delicious.
