Joint Father's Day and Wife's Birthday Gift???
Jun 7, 2021, 9:19 AM
|
|
In-laws tried to strong-arm me into buying a new set of patio furniture for wife's birthday by offering to put $200 towards it. I get it... I've been a notorious cheapskate from time to time with gifts for wife.
Wife asked me what I wanted for Father's Day, I suggested that for my father's day gift, she throw some money towards the patio furniture. She *says* that she agrees and it's a great idea.
***Am I a Jedi knight for getting my wife to help pay for her own birthday present, or will this come back to bite me?
Follow up questions: ***If it comes back to bite me, will I care? - No. ***If it backfires, will I learn from it? - No.
I went with Denim color, because I know our nasty dogs will ruin it. Sprung for the Sunbrella fabric, because it's supposed to be the best. Steered clear of that no-name chinese import crap that is always like half-scaled and super cheap. This one was on sale and seems to have good reviews... Full review fortcumming.

Classic area of contention around our house.

Not a fan of upholstered outdoor furniture. Because I know I WILL end up being the one who cleans it all the time. Then wife is like "We can store the cushions". Which means they will take up space inside or in the garage, that has no space, then it's a PITA to put it all out. We have wrought iron furniture that will last the rest of our lives with a fresh coat of Rustoleum every 5 years or so.
Aside from that practical aspect, there's also the solitude I get on the back porch since wife doesn't like the furniture. Put that crap out there and I'll have to listen to her while I grill. She will sit on it, complain about it being dirty, then wonder why I haven't cleaned it. Big nope.

Our pool area sucked, so I built a huge deck and poured more concrete and built a fence. It looked good.
Wife started keeping the dawgs out there. Then they poop everwhere. Now nobody wants to go out there because of the poop.
Wife says, if you buy nice furniture, we'll hang out there more, and therefore keep the poop cleaned up.
I don't know if she's well intended, and just can't follow through, or if she is just lying to my face.... doesn't really matter, the result is the same.

I'm not digging two holes. That's what a pool net and filter are for.

Every time my wife talks about buying something like this, I have to run the mental exercise of how much room in my shop this crap is going to end up taking. SMDH.

Should take care of the situation.

and it's been workin out great. did you ask your in-laws if they can give y'all money for the whole set, or maybe they got extra stuff layin around?
usually the wife wants somethin and asks me for it. we go through this thing where she gets upset, but I can't help it I'm on a teacher + school bus driver salary. sure enough, she goes to her parents and they take care of it. you tried that?
my paw in law said he's fixing to get new ceiling fans in his new house (he's got big $), and offered to give the old ones to us. now I got to spend another weekend replacing the ceiling fans I ripped out of our old house.

it was a table and chairs, not the sectional sofas. Well Sh*t, we already have a table and chairs. I almost told them to come back over and pick it up, but but I decided to keep them. Next time they bring dinner over, we'll have a place for everybody to sit.
I did make my wife call them up and cuss her mama out about that though. They new we arleady had a table.
