I always liked him. There's not been many Gamecock players I've respected much, but he's been one of them, along with Lattimore. They may have indulged in rivalry smack talk from time to time, and that's normal, but just the way these two guys played and have carried themselves since college - I've always respected it.
Great article on WYFF about him following his heart attack. Can't imagine his kid(s) witnessing that, and his wife as well. How frightening for them.
I think it's a great idea to have AEDs at youth football and other sports events - his new organization, HeartHuddle. Between the coaches and family that are there, there's plenty of risk of heart events. I hope Clemson folks can get behind this effort and we can all make a difference.

Can't say that I liked him, but I sure did respect him. I was glad when he graduated.

Last night I was talking to a very good friend of mine after choir practice. He is a Gamecock fan. He told me that he hoped the Tigers played well. I looked at him and said, "To be honest, I can't wish the same. BUT, please know this ... collectively, I don't like the Gamecocks and can't wish good for them. However, on an individual basis, I love you and several other Gamecocks. Y'all are my friends and I will do anything for y'all. Heck, even your coach is doing good things down there. But, I just can't pull for the Gamecocks." He laughed. Then we proceeded to talk about the programs we both couldn't stand ... anOSU and UGa were at the top of our list.

I'm the same. I have several Gamecock friends. I can't stand their fan-base in general. I'm not a fan of their coach. But I've never really had anything against most of the players - those without criminal records, anyway!
I just can't pull for the Gamecocks as a team. Just doesn't work. I enjoy seeing the lose!
But, like I said, they've had some players that I respected as athletes and as people. Shaw and Lattimore are the two that come to mind first.

.... I'll be right there to watch them compete. May or may not put on a garnet shirt, but I'll be there for my kids regardless of where they go to school.
More people should apply the same to politics within their family. Both of my kids seem to be growing into conservative Republicans, but I have fam members who are far left. I can't stand being around them, but I love them and respect their right to make stupid decisions.
