O-LINE recruiting for '22 and '23

Jan 30, 2022, 8:00 PM

It's a pretty solid consensus that the OL play has been the weakest link in the program over the past couple of years--whether it be a lack of talent, development or coaching can be debated. Why is it that the Tigers only have one target for '22 and one for '23 listed on the recruiting page? Are we now stocked up with an excess of talent that has been building up? From the outside looking in, it would seem that there would be 5 or 6 "big time" targets on the board.

Maybe it’s just out of date.

Colin Sadler 4* top 150 #14 tackle and Blake Miller 4* #203 #16 tackle coming in this class. Several top ranked tackles and interior olineman in 23 class have been offered. What site you looking at?

Unfortunately, it was TigerNet

I was looking at the targets and thought I had looked at signees for '22...just one IS listed for '23.

I count 7 offers for 23 class. It’s still early and Clemson is slow to offer because they like to see if the player is a good fit for culture both high character and does well in the class room. Clemson likes to bring in good students as well as good men! Remember “A Clemson man needs no introduction!”

Should have gone to 24/7…Thx!***

We have a couple committed already for 22. For all I know they are on campus already. I am sure we will take at least a few in 23 as well.

Not sure what you are looking at but I count 6 targets for the O line and I am sure that number will increase

It’s kind of interesting

People say Dabo never adapts. But he’s been after a lot of quick speedster WRs now that refs refuse to call PI and the name of the game is separation.

However, we have not really learned that we can’t keep signing way more tackles than guards and just converting them. We need to sign some incredibly large mauler IOLs. We’ve signed a few finesse IOLs but it’s mostly been tackles and guys like Putnam inside.

When we signed Putnam most of TNet was overjoyed!

Jan 30, 2022, 9:28 PM

Most saw him as a big mean mauler at the guard position.

He was a high 4-star recruit. He had a lot of offers.

Now we want to use him as an example of how we can’t/don’t recruit big mean maulers.

Honestly, we have signed plenty of big, strong highly regarded offensive linemen.

If we’re not effective on the OL, it’s not because we haven’t been able to sign players that lots of other schools wanted.

Maybe the answer will come with new blood at the OL coaching position. We’ll soon see.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Anyone who thought he was a “mauler” has no clue

Jan 30, 2022, 10:00 PM

What they’re talking about. He was 6’4” 280#. He has always been a little finesse TE playing on the line because he probably can’t catch. If you look at the vast majority of IOLs we have actually signed, most were under 300. Look at all the schools with great line play (Bama, Iowa, Wisconsin, Boston College). Their IOL are usually closer to 325 and are usually 295+ as recruits.

People kept asking why Linthicum wasn’t playing last year… he came in at 278#… he won’t be ready for 2-3 years at least.

Way too many fans have no clue. Apparently neither do

those who make a living analyzing recruits, because their consensus on Putnam was just as I described.

He may still be a work in progress, but the fact remains that he had a ton of high level offers and we were happy to get him.

We signed 2 this year.

OL recruiting. A few more of those are probably cracking the starting lineup this fall - definitely in that too 8 or so rotation we like to use. Our 2 2022 guys are already on campus as of a few weeks ago. We only have 2 SRs this coming year so unless there is attrition, we will likely on sign 2. I guess it’s possible could stretch to 3 if we felt stronger about the 2023 guys than 2024 but as it stands now 2024 would be our next “big” class for OL.
