Would appreciate your thoughts on this possibility. I hear

that Jeff Scott is making inroads at USF and is making good use of the transfer portal. Assume he improves yearly and brings USF up to UCF’s level, and, assume Dabo coaches a minimum of five more years and a maximum of 10, I can see Jeff being Dabo’s successor. Why spend time on a national search when you have a native son and great recruiter waiting in the wings. Please no wise a** replies. Though everything would have to fall in place, it is the ideal solution.

I simply think that WHEN Dabo is ready to retire, there will be a search for the best coach available at that time, if it's Jeff Scott, that will be great.

A lot can happen in 5-10-20 years…sort of useless trying to predict that far in advance.

Dabo is 52? No reason he will not coach for 20 more years! But even if he does only coach another 15, he will be 67 years old. Scott is one year younger than Dabo, which means he would be 66 years old in 15 years....I really don't see it. Elliot is 4 years older than Dabo...
Given what has happened, I think Clemson would be looking for someone that is in his late 30s to early 40s...Maybe by that time, another Sweeney?

I’m 52 and retired this year.
I don’t understand why people seem to want to work until they die…
Also, I don’t know anyone named Sweeney.

I will be 74 in a couple of months & am still working

The reason is since I get really bored after being home more than a few days and don’t like to travel a lot. So continuing to work is a good option

I am much older than you, work for myself, and can't imagine not working until I die. But then again, I absolutely love what I do and as long as people will pay me for it I will do it ...... and maybe even when they won't!

Tony played for Dabo, don't think he is 4 years older - dumb statement

To learn TE is 4 yrs older than CDS, same w/ JS only being a year younger. Have some memory of both as Tiger WRs, for some reason, in my mind, I thought of CDS as being approx 10 yrs older than both-

While I agree with your conclusion, most of your facts are off. Dabo is around 10 years older than both Scott and Elliott. I think maybe you are thinking about Venables being older than Dabo.

Elliot is 10 years YOUNGER and Scott is 11 years YOUNGER than CDS. Nevertheless it is a waste of time to discuss a replacement when he is still going to be here 10-15 years.

Yes, my brain left me on their ages...the really stupid part is that I looked them up, and still got them wrong! But the premise is still the same ...that would put both of them in their late 50s, early 60s when Dabo retires in 15-20 years.
I really thought the idea of Renfrow at that time was great! He is 26 (to be consistently wrong, 36?) now, so he would only be around 41 in 15 years. I am sure Dabo would have him as his receiver's coach, if he is not a head coach somewhere at that time...

I have no doubt Hunter Renfrow will be excellent at whatever he chooses to do after a long and successful NFL career. But we have no idea if he would be a good coach or not. If you want a former player, why not mention several who are currently on the staff like Spiller, Eason, Streeter, Austin, Grisham or Boyd.

That can’t be right. I’m Dabo’s age and I remember Jeff Scott being a boy on the sidelines with his Dad at USC. I was mid 20’s when Brad was at Carolina.

Reasons for not retiring early: 1. Cannot afford to 2. limit to how much fishing and drinking cheap beer one can do. 3. INFLATION 4. cannot afford to spoil grandkids properly 5. Some may even like to work.

I would love to retire and play more golf but after going through a divorce and the current situation with this economy I cannot ever see it happening. Sad after being in the work force for 31 years I can already see that there is no end game for me regarding retirement.
Unless one of you win the lottery and feel the need to share your winnings.

Hundred of variables so no way to predict an outcome. Since we are guessing imma say Wes Goodwin or Christian Wilkins will be the successor. 100% take it to the bank

USF has to be patient with Jeff. The conference is going to lose UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston to the Big 12. Those 3 teams are so much better than the rest of that conference. Once they’re gone, USF has a legit shot of being over that conference. With the way Jeff has used the portal, they’ll be the most talented team when the big 3 are gone.
But, he’s only won 3 games in his 2 years there. Their schedule is so difficult this year, so I doubt they improve that much. 4 wins could be tough for them. How patient will they be?
