Looks like it is going to cost two arms and a leg but, I am going. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

I've got a friend of a friend with box seats....He's working on getting me a ticket to the game. Sure, I'll be surrounded by the Irish in their own home, but when we pull out the win, it will be worth it...
I did scope out the scene when I was in South Bend for work a few years back. Beautiful campus, cool stadium (I got a maintenance guy to let me in, ala Rudy). As for parking, there are a bunch of lots, but some of them are FAR away from the stadium. I've asked a few ND friends and they say park out a way, catch a shuttle in to the shops near campus at intersection of E. Angela Blvd & N. Eddy St or make friendly with the Irish folks at their tailgates (helps if you have a 12 pack of good beer, bottle of decent whisky, etc.) Some of the local motels run shuttles but their hotel scene actually in South Bend/Campus area is limited. Also, there are a gazillion of those scooter things all around town and I rode one of those to the campus edge from downtown (not allowed on campus). Wouldn't recommend doing that if you're drinking though, for obvious reasons.
In South Bend, try Chimmichurri for some really good Empanadas, Peggs for Breakfast, and LaSalle Grill for some fine dining.

Are the FAR away lots the ones on the north side of campus? At least it’s a beautiful walk.
