Notre Dame and the ACC

I wish some of you would get these delusional thoughts of the Irish joining the ACC as a football school out of your heads. There is absolutely no reason for them to join. They are about to play in the BCS Championship and reap the financial benefits. Alabama has to divide their share with a conference, Notre Dame doesn't. They keep it all to themselves us their tv deal with NBC. They will never join.

Nothing to wait and see. They will see how much Notre Dame adds to the TV ratings during the championship and the Irish will never be left out of the playoff format for that reason alone.

They'd be stupid to join a conference. They get special treatment in many, many ways. The playoff will factor them in, they'll stay independent.

While ND does not share their bowl take, they do not get the full $17 million. Actually, their take is around $6 before expenses. Considering the trip will cost them approximately $2 million the will only net about $4 million. Certainly, this is not chump change, but after you factor in coaching bonuses it is hardly the windfall that most people think.
