QB Issue - Serious Question

Who in their right mind would start a freshman at QB -

in an 8 PM ABC game of the week with all eyes in the country on this kid?

in the freshman QB's first meaningful big game start?

with a limited offering to snaps/performance history to judge and assess to see if he is really ready?

with a porous OL? (especially after losing a now clear difference maker at LT to the NFL from prior year)?

AND in front of a hostile crowd on the road?

AND when you could have taken a more conservative approach with a more seasoned QB (who by the way had a much greater understanding of the full playbook and who had gained valuable game experience in prior seasons and performed admirably in limited snaps)?

Well....Jimbo did on Oct. 19, 2013 in Death Valley.

Cole has been in the system for 5 years and has played well.

I think we're gonna see more of DW, and will have more to go on to evaluate.

Well I wouldn't have called FSU's line porous last season. That plus Winston started at like 5 or 6 games that season already. Good effort though.

Correct - he had started 5/6 games already but Jimbo made the decision to start him in the prior Spring (before Winston took a single snap in a meaningful game) leading to Trickett transfer.

Also - if you look back at preseason literature last year - FSU line along with QB was biggest question mark. Line matured well in season - due to talent - but no one knew what it would look like at time Winston was named starter.

Fisher does or did, I would not start a freshman at QB. Dabo and Morris
have a better feel for this than any of us. They are going to make the call
anyway. All others are p------ in the wind.

he has better mobility & faster release faster ball.

he might get a chance to run a little option too.
