Lungey opinion on a mangey topic.

Ok, will start with the mandatory statement that I love TL as a Clemson QB and overall I'm glad he's such a good dude with a good head on his shoulders.
My overwhelming feeling though that reached its peak last night at his draft selection is that as an individual, he is mind-numbingly, painfully boooooring. On the old Myers-Briggs test, this guy would be pegged all the way to "I" on the Introvert/Extrovert scale. He's the guy that marries your wife's best friend, and you sort of dread the inevitable get-togethers because after 10 minutes of you trying to drag conversation out of him, he's just gonna drink water and stare at his shoes all night.
I'm really curious to see if this evolves as he's in the public eye, or if it remains constant and ultimately impacts his desirability as a brand ambassador for endorsements. He just doesn't generate the same general (read non-Clemson, non-Jacksonville) likeability as someone like Peyton, but I honestly don't remember what Peyton was like coming out of Tennessee either.
Not a slam, just an observation, and as a sociological test, it'll be fun to watch him evolve personally, or not.

It's served him well so far. Hope he continues to be boring, quiet, and plays good football. Last thing he needs is to get rich and then try and make himself into something he isn't.

All good points. Is he different than Deshaun
Apr 30, 2021, 9:17 AM
|
|
in that regard?
Both seem like head down grinder type guys without giving up much in terms of personality to the media. Deshaun seemed to come out of his shell a bit after going pro, and also seemed to come out of his underoos with the massage ladies.
For me I think they are probably a) introverted dudes in the first place, b) dudes that have been prepped and trained for media interaction for a quarter of their lives, and c) dudes that have understood their talent, opportunity, and upside since an early age and don't want to screw it up sans peepee touches by instamassage wimmins.
Peyton did evolve into a likeable guy but I swear I think I recall him to be the same football robot boi when young.
Anyhoo, GOOOOOOO tigers!

very awkward. I lived in Tenn when he played there and remember his interviews and press conferences.
But when he was at TN, he DID get in trouble for mooning a female trainer in the locker room. Some of you probably remember that incident.
He only "bloomed" several years into the NFL when he started making fun of himself being the weird dorky guy...remember the "Cut That Meat!" ad?

I mean, what coach or teammate if going to say #### to Trevor effing Lawrence in high school or college? Nobody. Maybe if Duane Coleman were still on the team, but he wasn't.
Now he'll go into a locker room with some pipe hitting OG's who are also millionaires, and probably DGAF about his feelings, etc. DIAMONDS ARE MADE UNDER PRESSURE!!!

boring. A lot of great athletes aren't very interesting.
My bigger concern is that he's may not have that will to win that DW4 has. I didn't want to pile on, but I do kind of agree with the concerns about him not having a chip on his shoulder. The NFL is full of very talented, very driven people that would kill you to get what they need for their families. It's their ticket and their family's out of poverty.
Yes, the Mannings were fine. So I hope TLaw will be as well.

Always seemed to go next level those rare times he got pissssed off about a dirty hit or a bad play he made, so he’s got the competitive juices. Man though, in the games where a defense legit pressured us, his basic throwing mechanics just went out the window. Will be interesting to see how that goes when that’s almost every snap in the NFL.

Very private guys, not showy, but extremely intense competitors, fiery. Trevor let that slip a few times in his career. Remember the intramural basketball clip of him flattening some sh1thead wannabe trying to play full court pressure defense? And remember him staring at Muschamp on his first TD pass against the coots?
I think he is tough as nails.
As for Montana, who can forget this commercial?

miami game this year he was starting to give it back too
he definitely doesn't seem to be the guy that is flashy or in your face about anything, until you #### him off or give him a reason to. he honestly acts like a huge stoner but I doubt he partakes.

no doubting his talent, of course. And I'll say right up front, who am I judge him?... sitting here in my pajamas reeking of last night's vodka cranberries and Marlboro lights. But yes, there have been times I would've liked to see more emotion and fire. I could be wrong, but he always seems a little too laid back.
I mean, we got skull-fucked by LSU and Ohio State. I picture TL coming to the sideline thinking - well, things are not going well tonight, but the Lord has blessed me in so many ways...
I'd rather see him smash his helmet on the ground so hard it bounces 15 feet in the air, and then get in the faces of his poosay OL and challenge them to block somedammbody. Cruise on down to the defense and ask them approximately what time tonight they plan on tackling, cause they're getting drug up and down the field.
I don't know, I'm probably way off base...
edit: Yes, as someone said, the few times he got pizzed and went into beast mode was after a cheap shot or whatever. I wish he coulda played like that more often.

their helmets and chew out the OL better have their house in 100% order. By that I mean that they better be playing perfect football. Chewing out the OL shows them up, and no one likes that.
I freely admit that I wanted to chew out our OL last season, but that's just me.
