Had a top 5-10 Defense with a very good DC (Aranda).
More importantly, they had NFL WR's at every position, A NFL RB, and a NFL QB that coupled with a new offense that virtually was NFL caliber than nobody at the college level was ready for.

Wes is every bit the DC (not a HC) that Aranda is, we don’t have the high level WR yet that they did, meaning a chase and Jefferson, but I think if Randall become Mike Williams like— big ask but possible based on pre injury potential, and AW, TB, Wesco and Moore… we might have some high end studs. Brinongstool can 100% exceed moss… Mafah is every bit of Edwards hellaire… we just need Cade to take that burrow jumpmhe took…. Let’s go baby!!

I'm with you on Wes, he's a better DC.
I also think we're better in spots on Defense that they were that year (especially at the End and LB).
We're as good at the TE position.
I believe Mafah could be nearly as good as Edwards-Helaire. 1,400+ yards, 16 TDs and 6.5 ypc will be tough though.
We have a better O line coach (which will go a long way as the season progresses this year).
If we stay healthy, WR group could be the best we've seen in 4 years. We'd need another year though for them to be in the same conversation as that 2019 LSU group though.
100% with you on Cade. He needs to step up to the next level. I don't think he has to be the best QB in ACC, but if he can put up up top 3 numbers in yards & TDs in the conference, we will be in great shape!

I feel what you’re saying. I almost feel like that every year. Sans the DJ years. I knew we were up the creek without a QB. I think Case has the ability to win every game. I hope we have receivers step up that can do the routine things well. Even Cade just needs to do the routine things well. That’s what we’ve been missing. Make the layups. Sprinkle in a few home runs and that’s winning football.
As far as Wes being a great DC; the sample size isn’t big enough to make a claim either way. He underperformed in year one. He got better in year two but still wasn’t what I’d call elite. That said, part of the blame goes to the offense. We couldn’t sustain drives and allow defense to rest. I do believe Goodwin is going to be a great DC.
No one had receivers at the level of 2019 LSU. Jefferson is a unicorn. Chase is no slouch.
Let’s spot the ball now! I’m predicting Clemson 20 UGA 17. Let’s go!!!

Ummm what you talking about their defense was not good. Like outside of the top 25. They just out scored everyone.
OP yeah you are smoking because Chase, Jefferson, and burrow type players aren’t running down that hill this year.

Their defense improved a lot late in the year. They had several guys return from injury.

This current Clemson team may have 23 players drafted. Also, nobody really knew who Joe Burrows was before his National Title Campaign.

Coaches to watch film. Coach O said that after 10 minutes he knew Joe was the smartest guy in the room. When asked about that meeting a year later Joe said he knew in 5 minutes. We haven't had a QB with that kinda swag and alpha mentality in a few years.

Exactly my point. If we get smacked around by Georgia we could easily start 0-3.
I’m just not buying any of this hype about the QB improvement, offensive line playing well, or offense being improved as a whole until I see it on the field against an actual opponent. This feels exactly like last year, so to say I’m bullish about this team would be an understatement.

That 08 team was considered a natty dark horse contender against a Bama team that had lost to UL Monroe the prior year. We were expected to do big things based on who came back and ranked top 10.
This year we're facing a top 5 UGA team with many expecting us to maybe challenge for the ACC or sneak into the CFP. Not many accolades on offense outside of Mafah and some new faces at WR.
The fanbase may have high expectations but lotta talking heads aren't taking us seriously outside of an article here or there saying something along the lines of "Clemson could do it...but it depends on the O".
