None of this Omicron shidd makes sense

Ok, Omicron is more transmissible, but Delta was more transmissible than Alpha, etal.
So, according to news this morning, Omicron is 50-75% less severe than Delta. If that is the case, why are so many people filling up the hospitals? Is that REALLY happening? Wouldn’t Delta have already put them there?
This really wreaks of More Control by the Epidemiologists…..

I don't know, but my guess would be that if 100 people have

it with, say, a 5% hospitalization rate, then 1000 people have it with a 1% rate, the latter has more hospitalizations. But you know that, so I probably misunderstand your question.

I had stopped looking at covid data months ago, but your question - together with the fact that I think I have it - caused me to look again just now, which reminded me why I had stopped. No two reports agree, everyone seems to be telling you what they want you to know, a very disorganized jumble of conflicting and selectively presented data. But in SC, from what I could find, hospitalizations seem to be holding relatively steady.

If something is half as severe but twice as many people get

It.....then it's a wash for hospitals.

They will go up, but hopefully not as bad as delta. Same with deaths. Will go up some too. But not as bad as delta. Still will suck for hospitals.

If 1-3% of your staff being fired causes a shortage, imagine the shortage when 20-30% of your staff, or more, have to quarantine for 10 days, right when they're needed most. That's the reason for changing that requirement. The quarantine requirement hurts the hospitals far more than the vaccine requirements.

1st hand knowledge of a vaccinated cancer survivor….

being hospitalized and on a ventilator.

Anecdotal _sure but situation is not unique. Probably some considerations are evident in the guidance from the medical community for “vulnerable” populations. Sure would suck to survive cancer and then be in the midst of a pandemic.

IDK if there is or ever were perfect answers. Seems like a highly dynamic situation. Government and medical officials just admitting the above from the onset may have increased credibility.

Lost credibility is their biggest problem. You would rather people take a vaccine? Tell the whole truth , get it out of the political arena and let people make their own decisions. They have not told the truth and therefore they will never get the compliance they want.

Could it be that the folks in the hospitals now ha e the Delta variant

And that we haven't seen the after effects of Omicron yet since it just took over as thr dominant variant in the last week or so? Also, it's the northern states that are having issues with hospitals filling up...they lagged that south on the Delta surge by 2-3 months (hot weather pushing folks inside vs cold weather). Now omicron is overtaking here as it had in other places, but it is still too early to tell in most places what the impact will be...this is all my speculation, of course based on my independent tracking of the numbers/timing.
