Our national title scenario
Nov 9, 2013, 8:15 PM
|
|
In order of probability.
1 bama loses twice
2 OSU loses to Michigan or MSU
3 Stanford drops another game probably UCLA in the PAC-12 title game
4 Baylor doesn't survive their tough remaining schedule
Doesn't seem crazy to think about... Maybe...but it is possible how ever slim a chance. Just don't put any money in it.

do you really think the country would want to see us and fsu in the nc game or did you forget about them?

Yeah there are sticky situations there

But I think it could work out for us a few different ways as long as bama loses twice.

Nobody outside the SEC wanted to see LSU bama again but we did because other people messed up and bama got back in.

Oregon would need to lose again too
But forget this, this is never going to happen and we don't deserve to be in the national championship.

Who is to say why everyone's will look like at the end of the season. We could work our way back into the conversation. I would be excited if we finished the regular season at #3 but think the window hasn't yet closed completely on being #2

We were completely dominated by our potential opponent. It wouldn't make sense to have that. We don't deserve it. It made SOME sense when LSU and Bama had their replay and FSU-Florida did back in '95 since their regular season games were close. We were curb stomped at home. We don't deserve a shot.

Rematch was after Bama lost a close one at home, and blew LSU out in the title. I would gladly take a close w over fsu in title. Subtract turnovers, and points scored on d, add a couple healthy players, and I think it'd be a game. I don't think anyone outside Bama could give them a game, fsu is stout.

No we shouldn't. Oregon would still only have 1 loss and would definitely be ranked higher than us and, again, FSU BEAT US BY 37 AT HOME. We don't deserve the chance to play them again.

I think you could argue that Oregon's loss to the 2 loss Stanford Cardinal is just as embarrassing to the world beating #1 FSU.

This. Forget any national championship scenario. Just beat South Carolina and this season will fall into place. We aren't gonna get a shot at the NC, but we've got a shot to bury a bad losing streak and land in a BCS bowl.

Oregon got embarrassed by a good but not great Stanford
Nov 9, 2013, 9:27 PM

Pretty sure those losses are in the same ballpark. Plus Tajh was visibly hurt at the half of our game. I wouldn't argue if you said Oregon's loss is a little less embarrassing than ours but to say they are not even close is ridiculous. Stanford let Army score on them.

Dude, stop it. You're making yourself look horrible. Oregon lost 26-20 to a very good Stanford team. Even if it wasn't that close, our 51-14 loss to FSU wasn't that close either. If they wanted to, they could have scored 70 on us.
Tajh was injured just like Mariotta was injured. Seriously, just stop. They're not comparable games. You're making our fanbase look bad.

That's what's supposed to happen when there is an argument to be made. If this scenario happens then you can lead the half of tigernet that wants to hand over the keys to Oregon I'll lead the half that wants another shot. Since it is a hypothetical and we don't controll our own destiny I'll add 5) conditional if Oregon is ahead of us come Saturday is that they blow a game vs Arizona. Looking forward to another 63-17 to put us on the lips of the media again.

If we're purely talking in the range of hypotheticals - if we could pound the snot out of a South Carolina team that turns around and beats Auburn or Alabama to win the SEC then we would absolutely be "in the discussion." I think certain posters think there must be a most self-deprecating fan award somewhere around the corner for trashing you and our team in this thread. Would fans of teams other than Clemson raise hell about a rematch with FSU - absolutely. But, all non-SEC homers raised hell about LSU/Alabama. How are you the better Clemson fan for conceding this argument to them before Clemson has even made its case?
If Clemson beats SCar and they manage to win the SEC then all SEC teams are eliminated from any contention. I can live with them winning a title when it will forever have the asterisk of ending the SEC run of title appearances. Assuming FSU wins out they are in, so the battle is for the number 2 spot. No one believes in OSU so if they lose one (likely with Michigan and a Michigan State rematch back to back) they slip behind us and no one else in the big 10 has a shot. Pac 12 is a little trickier. Oregon will slip down but probably not behind us. But they have also played themselves out of the Pac 12 championship game, barring craziness, so they won't have the benefit of another strong win. We need Stanford to drop something - most likely the Pac 12 championship. They lost to Utah so anything is possible. Baylor is another problem. They have a huge trap game against a reeling Texas Tech. Followed by another ranked opponent. Depending on how close the BCS standings are after this weekend a win against a very highly ranked Scar team may slip us past 1 loss Oregon. Is it fair? Not for me to say. I've watched the SEC manipulate the system for a decade now and I'm sure as hell not going to apologize if Clemson is the beneficiary in the last year of the abomination that was the BCS.

Knowing

Knowing how bad we played, were banged up, and missing db's(yes since fsu was still throwing deep in 4th qtr). Oh yea, fsu had a bye week before us. And you're telling me all of this means nothing??
If fsu wins title, rolls through everyone including Bama or whoever in title, and we win out and finish with them as our only loss, will you look back and say "well we played bad, were hurt, had little db depth left, and fsu had a bye, but we didn't deserve a rematch, Bama deserved to get blown out" Come on! I know what it looks like to outsiders, but what does Oregon look like? A team that can't compete vs defenses that win in the trenches? Stanford looks like a team that can slip vs a Utah! C'mon I'm not buying the pac10/12 hype. I think if not Bama, we would be the only team to challenge fsu on the field, rankings and bias aside.

Unfortunately the coots making and winning the SECCG may be the only chance we have at jumping a 1 loss bama Missouri winning that game probably wouldn't be good for us.
