CDC- Not enough expletives to describe
Jan 19, 2021, 7:28 PM
|
|
Well.....after 2 scheduled appointments at a site that is not even participating, they scheduled me for a vaccination on Monday Feb.15. Thought I was all set but still was uneasy about them making such mistakes so I decided today to call the clinic where I was scheduled and found out that they don't even give shots to anybody on Mondays.....I would have waited an entire month, shown up for the shot and found an empty building if I hadn't called. If anyone falls outside the 1a group, you might be waiting until the next president is sworn in before getting yours.

Good luck with that one too. Try calling area hospitals and see if they are scheduling. I called one about an hour away and they scheduled me 10 days from now.

The one in my county is not scheduling and the next county over is serving only their area. Prisma owns the rest of the upstate and is making you go through the CDC website so more delays caused by the CDC delays. All the pharmacies have scheduled for all the vaccine they have.

I have a few family members getting vaccinated this week at the Abbeville hospital give them a call. If you see a doctor who works there they may let you schedule a time.

Went yesterday to a Prisma site in Greenville, the old Kmart across from memorial hospital. Just walk in, no appt. My wait only about 20 minutes. They have a huge setup. They ask at the door if you already have appt and they separate the lines. Super efficient. Don't worry about the thousands of cars in the parking lot. It's a fast assembly line.

vaccines or right at 1% of the population. Since the beginning a total of 3.8% have received their first shot which is again right at about 1% per week.

So 1% per week equals 100 weeks to get everybody

I have been using some expletives for the past week. I live in west Georgia, and my wife and I are well in the 1a group. Vaccinations started here Monday of last week, and the local newspaper said first come-first served; no appointments.
My wife and I were there long before starting time and were turned away. The news article was totally wrong; it was appointment only.
After the first day, the website has said that the district is out of vaccine. We have been calling for a week and getting nothing but busy signals.
It might be months before we get a vaccination, if we ever do.
We will just continue staying home as much as possible; masking and social distancing when we have to go out.

Won’t help either - I got through to SCDHEC this afternoon & they agreed with me about the CDC and they sent me back to the online sign-up so I am waiting once again for CDC to contact me with another code & a chance for them to find me a legitimate site

Clover.... my next door neighbor took his mom to the Prisma vaccination clinic set up at the old K-Mart in Greenville this afternoon. She didn't have an appointment, but they took her. He said they were in and out in 15 minutes. He also said he was impressed with how organized and efficient it was. This might be an anomaly, but I thought I would share it since you are close to Greenville. Good luck!

WOW! 15 minutes? My daughter who is PRISMA nurse was scheduled this morning for the shot and went to the K-Mart location and she said the line was almost to the gas station and very little social distancing happening. Looked like a COVID hotspot in the making. She ended up turning around and went to some PRISMA employee health care place and got hers, as she wasn't playing around, as she had COVID back in May and has been exposed to over 15 person/patients in the past 3 months.

Guess I missed something because the Trump administration and Operation Warp Speed is handling the distribution of vaccine. Maybe things will get better after the Dems take over tomorrow.

If you are near Greenville, go on line to Prisma & check the box for shot. They will get CDC to send you app to fill out, When you fill that out, they will return sheet for you to make appointment. Just go to old KMart plaza near hospital. NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED. Went today without apppointment & was out on less than 1 hour. YOU MUST HAVE THAT CDC FORM

Clover ..... go to the site that I mentioned on T-mail. I guarantee they are giving shots and making reservations unless something drastic has changed in the last couple of days. It is a little longer drive, but worth it.

I live in the Spartanburg area and our Ingle’s pharmacies are giving the vaccine. I received mine(70 and older) and so did several people I know. Prisma in Greenville is supposed to be getting a large supply soon.

Clover, Try the VA. I am in Charleston and help look out for my dad. He has a VA card but has never utilized the VA hospital. I received a robo call from them during the Ohio State game. Punch #1 if you would like to receive vaccine. They called the next day and set his appointment. He gets the second shot February 3. Apologize if you already tried this route.

odd, I saw people getting them at the CVS by my house today, just walking in. Same with the local hospital. I guess it helps when you live in a wealthy county and your governor strokes the orange toad.
also just got an email from our congressman, all 7 Publix locations in our county will be offering the vaccine starting tomorrow.

Where do you live? We live in NC and my husband is 67. He finally got an appointment, but it is not until April. I will not be 65 until June. I am a reading specialist working with first and second graders and we are in school. I am not eligible to even make an appointment. Perfectly healthy 65 year olds who never leave their homes will be vaccinated well before I am eligible, even though I am around hundreds of people daily. I am willing to go to SC and get one if I knew where to go. Any help is appreciated.

My wife is in a 1a group and has the same problems as you. Latest appointment was for 1st week of Feb but got cancelled yesterday.
Having the states manage distribution probably wasn’t the best idea...most states can’t do anything right. Seems states are getting what they request but drop the ball getting it out to citizens.
Good luck.

I am sorry it has been such a hassle.
My Mom got an appointment just 3 or 4 days after Anderson County opened it up for 70 and over.
She got it Saturday with no issues. She is one who has a lot of allergies, so we were somewhat worried.

Please keep us posted on how the second goes on reactions please.
Isn't the J n J shot just one and done. Also, if there is anyone that has afib and bracacardia that's had the shot, I'd appreciate knowing if there were complications. Tia

It has been a colossal gang bang. If Jeff Bezos had been in charge of getting the vaccine distributed instead of the individual states, I suspect we would have seen a much smoother roll out. Here in SC, it has been a joke.
My parents are both in their late 80's. My mother in law is 93. My wife and I have jockeyed around on the computer for hours. My dad now has received his first injection. My mom in the next few days. My mother in law will get her first injection on Friday.
It just shouldn't be this #### hard!!
Government entities just don't appear nimble enough to do a job in a smooth fashion.

It's not just the state- when the CDC
Jan 20, 2021, 10:39 AM

schedules you for an appointment and then cancels and schedules you for a place that isn't even giving the shots, it doesn't even matter what the state is doing. And the state has to receive vaccine fast enough to keep up with requests - I have read that there hasn't been enough produced to keep up. I want a guarantee that the second shot is going to be there before I get my first one but we will see if problems pop up there.

Kroger opened up appointments for covid vaccine in SC yesterday.
I was able to get my parents both an appt at a Kroger in Columbia for Saturday.
You have to make the appointment on their website and I assume they will go fast:
