He turned down a lot of money to stay here in Richmond.

Makes sense. The knock on OP was that the pressing system can't win in the NCAA Tournament. That is what made Brownell appealing since he was vastly different in philosophies.

No, it doesn't make sense. Purnell has not won a NCAA tournament game... anywhere.
Pitino and other coaches have used fast paced, pressing styles successfully. The thing is, it takes some coaching - not just out hustling.

No, the knock on OP was his winless NCAA streak using it...***

Shaka was an assistant with Purnell and was not offered the headcoaching job at Clemson. He was only there a year I think.

and he left....all the coaches everyone was looking at was on the list. He was never really considered at all...just a name. He made it clear he was where he wanted to be and Clemson did not pursue. I am glad we have who we do.

Well Smart makes more now at VCU (1.2 million) then Brownell (900k)makes so its not going to happen. Clemson is not going to pony up the cash for a buyout of Brownell and then upgrade Smart's contract to get him to leave. You get what you pay for. Hell Memphis HC Josh Pastner got a raise to 1.7 million this year. Plenty of HC out there that would come to Clemson but they are going to cost.

Love shaka but it sure did not hurt that vcu did not miss a shot against a team that was weaker in the first place and had 3 starters either sick or hurt. Sure was fun to watch though.
