No such thing as "garbage time" touchdowns

Oct 17, 2015, 11:13 PM

playing 2nd stringers when the game is out of reach doesnt only protect our starters from unnecessary injury, but also gives the 2nd stringers important playing time. Dabo has done this every year here, and it prepares us for the future. Its for this reason that we simply reloaded on D this year after having to replace so many starters who left and are now playing on Sundays. No way is our D this good this year if they didnt get all that "garbage time" last year. And no way are we playoff contenders this year without this great defense.

So yeah, im fine playing the 2nd stringers when the game is out of reach.

Playing 2nd/3rd team guys is the only way to get them ready

for the rest of the year and beyond. Glad our coaches are interested in "garbage" stats, but preparing for the future.
Go Tigers!!

Garbage time isn't a knock against our team. Not sure why you frame it that way.

Garbage time means exactly what you said, and it's not negative towards us. Garbage points means that the other team wouldn't get them if our first string was in.

There are certainly "such a thing" as garbage points and I for one am glad our team is good enough to "allow" them.

I'm with you. BC got garbage points, but the time was well spent.

i frame it that way because some people below were complaining that we put in our 2nd/3rd stringers and gave up "garbage time TD's" instead of keeping in our starters to preserve the larger margin of victory in order to make a statement to the playoff committee. i'm simply pointing out the value of playing the 2nd/3rd stringers.

Well then my mistake. We definitely need to keep doing what we are doing. That appears to be your point, which I agree with.

But there are such a thing as garbage points, and if we are good enough that it's how teams score on us...then people need to wake up if they don't think that's a good thing.

Sorry if I misunderstood what you were trying to get across. Trying to stay awake in traffic.

no Prob. i guess my other thought on the topic is that while they may be garbage points, it's certainly not garbage time as it is very valuable to our future starter's development. something that you do not see other teams do as much as we do.
