Please do not let anyone use the excuse that Brad doesn't...

have the resources at Clemson to win.

We just invested over $63 Million Dollars into the basketball program 6 years ago. We update the coliseum, video boards, fan facilities, locker rooms, practice facilities, coaches offices, players lounge, weight room, athletic training room, and recruiting lounge. All of this was done in Brad Brownell's 5th-6th year with the program.

https://clemsontigers.com/sports/mens-basketball/facilities/littlejohn-coliseum/

Brad Brownell makes nearly $3 million per year. This is is just outside of the top 25 coaches in America. Considering his results over the last decade+ that is FAR more than he's worth. There are MANY coaches getting paid less and doing far more. The top 25 highest paid basketball coaches in America starts at $3.3 million per year. These include Drew Scott at Baylor, Tony Bennett at UVA, Shaka Smart at Texas and Archie Miller at Indiana.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1120070/college-basketball-coaches-salary/

Finally we hear the "lack of fan support" excuse. First let's start out with the fact that it is "waning" fan support. In the last 7 years under Brad Brownell we have averaged less and less fans EVERY YEAR. The current lack of fan support is a reaction to finishing 1 game over .500 three of the last six years. Mediocre basketball will equal mediocre fan support.

This said EVEN with the mediocre fan support we currently have due to years of average basketball and too many 5-8 minute scoring droughts to count - This year Clemson (6,661) averaged more fans in our basketball arena than VT (6,618) or GT (4,791). In case you aren't keeping count, that's the 2021 and 2020 ACC Champions. Miami averaged 4,292 fans this year and made the Elite 8. There were DOZENS of NCAA Tournament teams that averaged less fans than us.

It's time to stop with the excuses. Brad makes a decent salary considering his mediocre performance, we just invested over $63 Million dollars in the program 6 years ago (midway through Brad's tenure), and we have more fan support than other schools are far outperforming us. Fan support has been leaving the program for each of the last 6-7 years. There are no more excuses. There is only one thing that has been consistent over the last decade. Coaching. It's far past time for a change.

I agree. The problem is that the line is about 80/20 maybe even 90/10 against continuing on this path. Those of us that have been against for a long time feel like the athletic department is forcing us to go scorched earth since they aren't willing to be more proactive.

I will further add to this point that most Clemson fans who have not yet chosen sides from which to argue are likely skimming these types at best and have grown tired of the constant back and forth that isn't producing any new information to the situation.

I fall into this category of people who have not chosen sides and who are now tired of seeing the same arguments being hashed out over and over again.

horse. Goodness gracious we're a whiny crew. We all know the talking points. Brad is just good enough to not get fired and we've all lived through the exact same situation with Tommy B in football and we saw the light at the end of the rainbow with Dabo taking over. And the whiner crew thinks the exact same thing will happen in bBall. Im more realistic, I think we'll get a clone of Brad if not worse with a new hire. Because its really hard to expect lightning to strike twice but who knows maybe it will.

I'm game either way. But reading these dissertations with graphs and charts about the statistical analysis of our team along with the financial bottom lines of the program is starting to get comical. Just fire the dude already. It'll give us something else to complain about.

lol, that wasn't them renovating the Siegel Center or adding stuff onto it.

That is just their basketball development center. They dropped 25 million on something JUST for the program. Not the arena. Not the public. Just basketball development. It sit on half a city block next to the Stu. And oh, there is a sports leadership building next to it.

For example, the Swann Center (clemson) and affiliated area is about 25,000sqft of space. VCU has 60,000 feet.

Their 7.5-8,000 seat arena is about to be expanded to over 10,000, they have done other facade upgrades and the "Stu" - and unlike littlejohn - gets continous upgrades every few years, and is only 22 years old. Littlejohn gets a "catchup" upgrade every 20-30 years and expects folks to be "fiune"

Ages ago Tommy Bowden said we needed facilities. At that time moron fans looked around DV and thought everything was fine "as is". Today those same fans think that the money we spent on LJ because it was about to be condemned is the same thing as player facilities.

FWIW over the last 10 years we have spent $200MM on player facilities for football but zero on basketball. If you look at VT, Duke and most every other program they have a standalone basketball facility.

In terms of salaries go to the football site and look at a staff directory. You will see 60 ish highly compensated staffers listed and the one of the top five highest paid group of assistant coaches in the country. Do we have similar for basketball?

IF you want Brad replaced i get that but at least don't be clueless with your reasoning as its not acceptable for a Clemson man to miss the point by that wide a margin when its been covered a thousand times.

Have not forgotten about anything. Brad has to raise money to get the two rooms added to the design as the AD would not fund it otherwise. Guessing you would agree that 600 sq ft will not change a hundred years of history. I think the phrase is go big or go home and we went home...

Dabo did almost all of the heavy lifting in raising the money for his football facility.

Quit acting like poor Brad had to go above and beyond.

It’s just the way it works. Donors want to talk to the coach, not the slick politician AD.

Apr 7, 2022, 10:51 AM

Dont forget in 2003 35 million was spent on littlejohn as well. 8 million of it went to a practice facility and they added a 4000 sq ft weight room for the basketball program. I know that was a while ago but we are talking 100 million in upgrades in the last two decades. I will admit that most went to renovating littlejohn and they probably should have just scrapped it and built new, but big money is being spent.

Apr 7, 2022, 2:07 AM

Results + a REVENUE # that dwarfs anything any basketball program in history has generated. Basketball should NEVER be mentioned in the same breath as football. It is 2nd class but by being the only other reliable revenue sport in college athletics shares this misleading commonality with football. Made unique only because it is self-sustaining and does not enjoy the parasitical relationship with the football program that the rest of college athletic sports programs do for the most part, living off the backs of football programs across the nation-btw in case any has forgotten, b/c it's been a few years-Brownell's public admission that he loathes the recruiting trail, the in homes, & hs gymnasiums in the lower part of BFE-not fond of recruiting-RED FLAG-why any college coach, any sport would admit this publicly is puzzling-

But what history has shown us is that he does not have the ability to take us beyond a middle-of-the-conference team. Sometimes programs simply need new blood and a new perspective to improve. It's (past) time for Clemson to find that new blood. I'm not basing that on any sort of animosity towards Brownell; I just don't think he has what it takes to break through to have a championship-contending team.

You said:

"The top 25 highest paid basketball coaches in America starts at $3.3 million per year. These include Drew Scott at Baylor, Tony Bennett at UVA, Shaka Smart at Texas and Archie Miller at Indiana."

A few problems with this:

1. Brad isn't in the top 25 in salary, so I'm not sure why you proceeded to list coaches who are in the top 25.
2. Drew Scott is not the head coach at Baylor. But he is the head coach at Radford, and isn't in the top 25 in salary (I think you meant Scott Drew).
3. Shaka Smart isn't at Texas, he's at Marquette.
4. Archie Miller isn't at Indiana.

As for the other stuff you posted, no one said that we don't have fan support or haven't put money into the program. But if you think that's nearly enough to expect what many of you do from our program, then you're very misguided.

I know you were really proud of your post, and you clearly put a lot of work into it. But LOL, come on man.
