Question about the runningback position for 2013
Nov 1, 2012, 12:03 PM
|
|
Could we possibly see Sammy Watkins take some snaps and maybe have a some kind of role playing running back next year? Do u really having the confidence in McDowell or Howard carrying the loads? Im not so sure I have confidence in them yet but then again im just a fan, not a coach. But regardless, if they don't start out to well and we're having issues with the position, then I don't see why chad wouldn't put SW at runningback. SW is fast but what makes him fast is his acceleration. Just the kind guy we could use to hit the holes.

dye is physically ready. even if gallman needs a rs year to mature that leaves rm, brooks, howard and dye.
morris will continue to find ways to get sammy the ball & manage his 10-15+ touches a game.

McD is playing well, Howard has got like 1 carry in the last 3 games. What my question was is if we don't find a stable RB could we possibly put SW there and give him some snaps. I think we will.

If his shoulder gets banged up next year I think SW will be the backup. If u think about it, SW has already kind of been doing it. When u catch a screen pass the first thing u have to do is read your blocks and find the hole. Same with the jet sweeps, reading your blocks and finding the hole. He would be our 3rd option I think if DJ and McD don't work out

if he's cu's 3rd option, cu is in trouble or will run the ball even less than morris does now.

Speed is a bad decision at RB. Lol there talking about put RN at RB in short yard situation. Why not put SW in there in certain situations also

Maybe not as much as a RB and im not saying start him there and put him at every down, maybe 10-15 carries a game.

No, in comparison to RB's they don't.
Nov 1, 2012, 1:04 PM

If Ellington carries the ball 15-20 times a game he get's hit 15-20 times, with the exception being a break away touch down.
Say Sammy has 8-12 catches a game he probably only gets hit 6-10 times depending on him going out of bounds, breakaway touchdown, etc.
As for your proposition about Sammy at RB, HELL NO.

have you not watched?
you suggested he be moved to rb, play rb[and everything that goes with it] should 2[leaving out 3 others] rbs not work out.
honestly, you're all over the place and need to reel it in. what does rn being used in short yardage have to do with sw being moved to fulltime rb?

C.J., Ellington, Davis were all prototypical running back

size. There aren't many running backs at 6'1, 6'2ish.
Need a low center of gravity with solid legs. Putting Sammy back there for a full load wouldn't work out well.

I wouldn't mind seeing Adam Humphries get some work at RB.
Playing RB would reduce the impact of his lack of height and still take advantage of his elusiveness, speed, & ability to catch the ball. Also, with their depth at WR; I would rather see him get PT as a KR, DB or RB any way.

That's part of the reason Tramel Terry is looking hard at us
Nov 1, 2012, 12:25 PM
|
|
He could get time at running back or receiver, so his chances of getting on the field early are good. He looks bigger than his listed weight in the photos I've seen, to go with great speed.
Tyshon Dye reminds me of Lattimore.
Sammy is already involved in the running game. He may not line up beside the qb, but he's getting the ball in the running game. I would look for him to get more carries in close games.

Part of the role of RB at Clemson is blocking...
Nov 1, 2012, 12:33 PM
|
|
...while you may see Sammy run with the ball, there's no sense in moving him to RB.There's a big difference between blocking cornerbacks downfield and pass blocking against charging linemen.
I think we'll keep the young man where his talents are best suited.

I agree. I think Hot Rod could be #1 but due to his size he will have to split some carries. He is a little smaller than Ellington but probably not as durable so I would expect Dye or Brooks to get some carries to give us speed and power with the running back combo.
