This list cannot be true. According to the mange, Smoking Pig and Henry's Smokehouse are the two best BBQ spots in the World.

He missed the best places in Memphis and picked one that is terrible.
I knew before I read it that Peg Leg Porker would be the Nashville pick because it’s trendy, but it’s absolutely not the best here.
I’m sure the SC ones seem correct simply because SC has 4-5 obvious choices that you aren’t going to go wrong including on a list like this, but I do think that you might as well pick Jim and Nick’s if you’re picking home team.

8/10 BBQ consistently to the masses.
Now there’s nothing wrong with 8/10 Q, in fact it’s a glorious thing to eat, but there’s enough 9 and 10/10 places that he should have looked a little harder before going with a lazy take like Home Team.

I had it once in Charleston but barely remember it, so I’m basing my 8/10 opinion on the recent meals I’ve had in Greenville. I suppose their Chas locations could be turning out 12/10 pure fire BBQ.

But comparing HT to Jim n Nicks is a low blow.
When I saw the complete list I laughed as well. Melvins? Bessingers? The only list those should be on is the "Top 25 of food that makes me feel like I want to vomit and die 30 minutes after I eat it."
But HT is not 'great' BBQ, at least not in comparison to some others. I ate at the one on Sullivan's Island twice in 3 days last week(Sat and Monday) and while it's not bad, they have other stuff that make it desirable. Location and scenery are certainly on that top 10 list as well as Gamechangers and their smoked wings. Jim N Nick's have none of that. Perhaps you made the Jim N Nicks comparison as a pejorative, I dunno. But IMO, Jim N Nicks is better than Bessingers.
I had some brisket from HT on Monday, and it was OK. Its certainly not Lewis BBQ quality, which is some of the best brisket cooked (period), but it's downtown so it might as well be in another state for as much as I'll actually go there.

do so for Happy Hour/cocktails and meet-up. I think it's over priced for what you get.
Contrast that with Lewis Barbecue who has opened in the old Tommy's Ham House location, their food is pricey, but it is really good, and they have a good beer and cocktail inventory.

BBQ is subjective, as is the method of weighing criteria in ranking BBQ joints. Robert really digs on BBQ hash, which I think is just OK, so if he and I both go to Sweatman's and I skip the hash because don't care, mine and Robert's respective rankings of Sweatman's on a list will be noticeably different.

I’m telling you the difference between the Peg Leg Porker and many places in middle TN he left off is the difference in a BBQ sandwich from Sonny’s and one from an elite place. There’s no subjectivity if you know a GD thing about BBQ. So I’m left to assume
1) he just hasn’t eaten at many places in the area, which would be strange grounds for claims of national BBQ expertise, but ok.
2) inclusion on this list, maybe not in all cases, but in some, is transactional somehow. (Most likely, IMO)
3) the man wouldn’t know good BBQ if it hit him in the face. (Unlikely)
On a side note, did you ever make it to Little Miss BBQ. Still the greatest brisket I’ve ever had in my life.

speaking, a "BBQ expert", then who actually is? How many BBQ joints are there just in Nashville and the surrounding areas? If you had BBQ for lunch and dinner every day for two weeks, you're still probably only hitting a quarter of the places in that large radius, including the couple you really like within 6 miles of your house.
Let's say you and I have been to 100 different BBQ joints in our lives, give or take (I really don't know what my number would actually be), and we both like to think we know what good Q is. Put us next to somebody who has been to 1,000 (but still has 9,000 to go), and studied all of the American history behind it, and written books....does that make his opinions or rankings more or less correct or accurate than ours? Nah, because it's still completely subjective.
I haven't asked, but I very seriously doubt any of these joints have any idea who he is when he walks in and orders BBQ. He's not getting envelopes of cash under the table, and for the decade I've known him, I kinda doubt he'd take it even if offered. I mean, his real job is an architect, so it's not like he needs BBQ bribe money to make ends meet. Southern Living probably reimburses him for meals for something he does because he loves doing it.

The Nashville joint is a multi-million dollar building snack in the middle of the one of the trendiest areas. If you go there, the line consists of hipsters and bachelorette parties.
For a BBQ expert, that’s when it’s clearly time to run. Lewis Grizzard had it right. The best bbq comes from poorly lit places with red checkered tablecloths and pictures of Jesus on the wall. Nashville, while not a BBQ mecca, has a few of those places, and they’re so much better than the corporate joints it’s not funny. If you’re an expert, you should know this, and those places aren’t hard to find. God knows they could use the PR and the ensuing business more than a flashy place in the gulch that’s propped up by 5 different angel investors.
Maybe he was in town once for an architecture conference and walked over there and that’s the only place you’ve eaten. No sweat. Just leave Nashville off your list then, because you don’t know enough about what you’re talking about to imply in an article that the only place you’ve tried is the best in the city.

In Nashville and I’ll take you to four places better than Peg Leg. It’s the place with the glitziest location in town and the biggest marketing budget, and I’m telling you that either they bought their way onto this list or the guy got his rankings by browsing yelp reviews.
I started working in a BBQ place at 14, and I may not have written a book, but I know good Q when I taste it.

Obed: Tony Elliott sucks
“I can’t have an opinion because I’ve never coached D1 Football (IKHAO) board members” - he won a championship and you’re going to look like an idiot when he kills it at UVA!
Obed: Brandon Streeter sucks
IKHAO - He’s doing a great job and getting better every game. Dabo made a great choice!
Obed - (coming into DJ’s first year as starter) - DJ SUCKS
IKHAO - you’re high! Did you see that ND game! He’s leading us to a natty!!!
I haven’t been wrong on a football hot take yet. Jury is still out on CJ, but if he sticks around and gets some consistent talent in the room and gets production out of them, it’ll be the first crow I’m glad to eat. As it sits though, we all end up having the same opinions, some of you just don’t change your mind until Dabo says it’s ok.
